Karen Powell serves as the Director of the Partnerships in Child Care Division of Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge. Powell holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Philosophy and a Master of Arts degree in English. Powell has 11 years of experience in education, developing trainings and new curricula, policy and infrastructure, and assessments and measurements. She also has 11 years of experience with research into best practices, program and grant implementation and administration, staff supervision, and event management. At Louisiana State University, as the Program Director for a statewide coalition, and as the Director of Education Initiatives at Capital Area United Way (where she launched multiple national early childhood initiatives in the state), Powell has brought together and led diverse groups in partnerships on new programs, facilitating work both within and outside of non-profit agencies. Powell also served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for 3 years to abused children in the foster care system.
