Joanna Mazzocchi

Hi,

my name is Joanna, and this is my short biography.

As I was always interested in other countries culture and history, during my law master studies at the Faculty of Law of University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland) I became a grant holder of Socrates-Erasmus programme at Universita di Pisa (Italy). The studies I concluded in 2005 with a diploma dissertation titled “Teaching Law in Ancient Rome” based on multilingual literature. At the university, I’ve continued my English language learning for two years at the intermediate level, despite my primary languages of instruction was Polish and Italian.

My interests towards foreign languages I’ve developed studying Interpreting and Translation at the University of Warsaw concluded in 2008 with the certificate of post-graduate studies. During my studies, I’ve met many great foreign languages teachers who have shared with me their passion for teaching.

The great adventure with teaching I’ve started for good in 2008 in Warsaw, where I’ve worked for many years as an Italian language teacher in collaboration with two schools of foreign languages in Warsaw. My lessons were provided in a professional environment, as my students were employed in companies providing the services for the customers from different countries.

Seeking for the better understanding of my students’ learning problems I decided to study Pedagogy for Teachers. In 2009 I completed three-term post-graduated studies in the field of Teaching Pedagogy in University of Computer Sciences and Economics in Olsztyn. The educational programme covered 510 hours (including 155 hours of teaching internship). I’ve researched a selected subject, which then presented in the form of a diploma dissertation entitles “Intercultural Pedagogy and Bicultural Education”.

Until 2016 I’ve continued my work as a teacher and translator in Poland collaborating with many companies with Italian capital and Italian management boards, after that I’ve moved in Scotland together with my husband and daughter.

The biggest challenge for me as a Polish mum living abroad was to provide for my child a structured and comprehensive knowledge of the Polish language and culture. That was the reason for which I’ve applied for Polish School in Glasgow when I was offered a place as a Teaching assistant. I’m PVG Scheme member – the essential requirement in any Education sector job in Scotland.

My latest experience as a student is: online course Introduction to Cultural Studies: Language and Culture launched by the University of Leeds (UK) – concluded in June 2018.

Nowadays I’m working as a freelance language tutor (Polish and Italian language). The online course “Italian language for travellers Part 1” with the series of dialogues “Andy di Glasgow” is my latest creation.
