Romualdo Rivera is the founder of Tensile Structures Education, he is lecturer and represents the IMS e.V., Institute for Membrane and Shells at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany. Before becoming the founder of the Organization in Tensile Structures, Romualdo worked in the area of Design and Project Management for Golden Arches Corporation in Central America and the Caribbean. He was also the Professor of AutoCAD, AutoLISP and 3D at Liceo de Arte y Tecnologia de Puerto Rico. He is the author of the 3D and AutoLISP courses at the Institute. Romualdo’s education includes a Master of Engineering in Membrane Structures from Alhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany. Studied Architecture Textile at Politecnica University of Madrid in Spain. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at the Interamerican University Of San Juan, P.R.
Romualdo is the author of two Books: “Elemento de Atracción, en Diseño y Composición” and “Membrane Structures, First Steps towards Form Finding”. The book of Membrane Structures was written in collaboration with Raham Zarfam – PhD in Structural Eng., Carlos Talavera – Architect, Thomas Van Dessel – M. Eng. and Caglar Ozturk – Architect.
Dr. Raham Zarfam is the co-founder of Tensile Structures Education, Inc., he is a senior structural engineer at SL Rasch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany. He received his PhD on structural dynamics from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran and also graduated a Master degree in Tensile Structures from Institute of Shell and Membrane Technology, IMS, Anhalt University of Applied Science in Dessau, Germany.
He has been working as a structural engineer for a decade and entered in the field of tensile structures in 2011. As he graduated his PhD in 2012, he joined SL Rasch to work on wind simulation and structural calculation of several cutting-edge projects of the membrane structures.
Furthermore, he has done researches on structural dynamics and computational wind engineering and published several papers in well-known journals and Conferences. Dr. Zarfam has written a book on soil mechanics in Persian and had been University lecturer for 4 years on “Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures” and “Actions on the Structures”.
Dr. Pedro R. Munoz, Ph.D., P.E. is the Founder and Director of AIMS, American Institute of Membranes and Shell Technologies, Inc. , a nonprofit educational organization recently established in Massachusetts with the main purpose of promoting excellence in the education, training, and networking activities related to the fascinating subject of tensioned membranes and shells applications to a variety of architectural and structural engineering projects for the construction and building industry.
Dr. Munoz, is a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ, where he obtained his MSCE and Ph.D. in 1987 and 1994 respectively. A native of Cartagena, Colombia, South America, Dr. Munoz arrived to the USA in 1986 to pursue graduate studies after graduating with a BSCE from the University of Cartagena in 1979. In the USA has kept a track record of combined professional and educational experience of more than 25 years. He has been an Adjunct Faculty Professor at NJIT, Merrimack College, and Boston Architectural College teaching the subjects of structures to engineering and architectural students.
He has worked as a Senior Project Engineer for the largest Tensioned Fabric Roof Contracting company in the USA and has further his education and training in this subject by completing the advanced studies of membranes and shells at the Institute of Membrane and Shell Technologies, IMS of Anhalt University in Dessau Germany. In the past years he has published technical papers of composite building materials for the Journal of Structural Engineering of ASCE and is a holder of two USA patents for Composite Floor Systems using lightweight composite materials.
