Journalism lecturer

Holly Wise is a lecturer at Texas State University - the fourth largest university in Texas. She teaches multimedia journalism, editing for clear communication and the beginning and advanced levels of news writing.

She is the founder and executive director of VoiceBox Media - a news service that specializes in solutions journalism. She has traveled to Kenya, Haiti and Ethiopia to cover social entrepreneurs and changemakers. Last summer, she developed an internship program and now works with teams of journalists and public relations practitioners who are committed to honing their solutions skillsets. She has taken teams of students to cover national and global stories, such as the Baltimore activists and community hospitals in Nicaragua.

After completing her Master of Science degree in Mass Communications from Murray State University in 2008, she worked as a general assignment reporter at a daily newspaper.

Within a year, she was promoted to Bureau Chief where she managed the newsroom's operation and production as well as covered several news beats. Eventually, she became the Editor of a weekly newspaper in Texas and was promoted quickly to City Editor for the company's main daily newspaper. As the City Editor, Holly managed the newsroom's daily coverage for its print and online editions. She served as the lead editor on breaking news stories, special projects and long term centerpieces, and acted as the social media editor, with the principal responsibility of cultivating community engagement and enhancing digital growth.

She worked on the web desk at the Austin American-Statesman just in time to help launch their new digital product.

She is an alumna of the World Journalism Institute and is a frequent guest speaker at her alma mater.

You can see some of her published work at PBS MediaShift.
