For over 20 years, Hisao Zen has trained and honed his skills through completing stringent and disciplined projects, including the building and restoration of historic Buddhist temples and landmark shrines. In more contemporary environments, Hisao has further extended his field of craftsmanship to domestic and commercial building, interior design upgrades and refinement.
Hisao is also currently teaching a course on Japanese Joinery at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. From his years of teaching, Hisao has extensive knowledge of the difficult elements and stumbling points for beginners and will carefully explain all the basics so that even the earliest of beginners can make attractive structures with precision. Hisao hopes to take Japanese Joinery, known only by professionals and some enthusiasts, and introduce it into the public sphere of DIY projects.
