Force free dog trainer
My name is Geraldine, I am a dog trainer, a dog fosterer, a dog lover.
My passion for dogs started at a very young age. I grew up in Belgium and as my parents wouldn't allow me to have a dog, I was looking after my neighbours' dog, taking him for daily walks, playing with him, training him. He was a medium sized rescue dog called Mickey. He was my best friend.
Then when I was old enough to live on my own, I got my very first dog, she was a German shepherd called Joyce and we shared a great life together for 14 years. I even moved to Ireland with her! Sadly she passed away in 2016 and I still miss her so much, she was my companion, my everything.
When she passed away I decided to start to work with rescues in Ireland and foster for them, and I ended up keeping 3 dogs that were failed fosters. I never imagined I would have 3 dogs one day but now I couldn't imagine my life without them. I still foster extra dogs too, so you never know, I might even have 4 dogs one day :-).
Working closely with rescues, I started to realise that the main reason dogs end up in pounds and shelters is because owners don't know how to train them because they just don't talk dog. My mission today is to help dog owners so that less dogs end up in shelters or being put to sleep because it truly breaks my heart. I want to change this situation and make the world a better place.
I started to study canine behaviour and dog training by following a course with the DSPCA, and assisting puppy classes with them. I finished that course at the end of last year and I am currently studying more with the Dog Training College UK. I just love understanding our canine companions and I am constantly reading books and registering for new courses and programs to learn more.
Once you understand how easy and fun dog training can be, you will have a great time with your dog and build a strong bond with him.
