I started learning the violin at 5 years old with the Suzuki method. At age 10, I was awarded a scholarship to enter a music conservatory based at the University of Canterbury. I learnt many pieces ranging from the Baroque period through to the classical and romantic periods. To give you an idea of my background, here are some of the pieces I performed:
Concert in E major (Spring) by Antonio Vivaldi
Konzert in a-mol BWV1041 (1st movement) by J. Bach
Praeludium and Allegro by G. Pugnani – Kreisler
Symphonie Espangnole (1st movement ) by Edouard Lalo
Romanian Folk Dances (I – VI ) by Bela Batok
Concerto in G minor Opus 26 by Max Bruch
Romanze Opus 40 by Beethoven
Polonez Koncertowy by Henryk Wieniawski
Symphonie Espagnole (5th movement) by Edouard Lalo
Summer, Autumn and Winter by Antonio Vivaldi
Every piece I learned had to be meticulously prepared, practised and rehearsed before each performance as a concert soloist.
I then discovered that I could quite easily play popular music by ear, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. So I decided to focus more on pop music, as my classical training could be used to greatly enhance pop music. The pop pieces I have played include theme from Titanic, theme from Rocky, Thriller, Beat It, Mama Mia, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Super Trouper and many others. You can watch me playing these songs and more on YouTube. I have had lots of fun, and I knew this is what I have always wanted to do. I was invited to perform solo at numerous events; my music was very well appreciated by my audience. In my spare time, I also enjoy composing different genres of music.
My goal is help you have fun playing pop music, so that your audience will love hearing you play, and make you feel like a star.
