"The father of modern project management" (HBR) · 2× Thinker
About me
Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez is described by Harvard Business Review's Adi Ignatius as "the father of modern project management." He is widely regarded as the world's leading authority on project management and organizational transformation — the thinker who has done more than anyone to move projects from an operational afterthought to the heart of how organizations lead change and create value.
With 35 contributions to Harvard Business Review — more than any other author on the subject — and twice recognized on the Thinkers50 ranking of the world's most influential management thinkers (the first Spaniard to be honored), Antonio has shaped how a generation of leaders deliver strategy and change.
He is the author of Powered by Projects: Leading Your Organization in the Transformation Age (Harvard Business Review Press, 2026) and The HBR Project Management Handbook (2021), as well as The Focused Organization (2012), The Project Revolution (2019), and Lead Successful Projects (Penguin, 2019). He is the creator of the Project Canvas and co-founder of the Brightline Initiative and the Strategy Implementation Institute.
A Fellow and former Chairman of the Project Management Institute (PMI) — the first Spaniard to chair it — Antonio is Vice President of the Association for Project Management (APM). As founder of Projects & Co, he has advised more than 80 organizations — including GSK, BNP Paribas, Nestlé, Google, L'Oréal, Roche, Repsol, and Moody's, as well as public initiatives such as Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 — and trained over 10,000 leaders worldwide. He has delivered more than 600 keynotes and teaches at leading business schools including Hult, Duke CE, IE, Solvay, Vlerick, and Skolkovo. He is a member of the Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches.
Born in Madrid and educated in Germany, Mexico, Italy, and the United States, Antonio holds an MBA from London Business School and completed INSEAD's International Directors Program. He speaks five languages. Through his courses here and his LinkedIn newsletter "Lead Projects Successfully," he helps professionals everywhere turn ideas into results — because, as he puts it, a vision without execution is just a hallucination.
