About me
Coach Tony Marcopulos, BA Physical Education (CSU-Stanislaus, 1987), MA.,T. Teaching Physical Education (University of the Pacific, 1990)
Coach Marcopulos has been a Collegiate Men's Basketball coach for over 30 years. Coach Marcopulos began his coaching career at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. There he was an assistant coach for 11 years (1988-1999). After the 99' season Marcopulos moved to become the assistant coach at the University of Portland in Portland, OR (1999-2000). After 20 years as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Cabrillo College in Aptos, CA (2000-2020), Coach Marcopulos announced his retirement from coaching shortly after the conclusion of the 2019-2020 basketball season.
While at The University of the Pacific Marcopulos recruited and helped coach Michael Olowokandi who became the first pick of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1998 NBA draft. While at Cabrillo (founded in 1959), Marcopulos built a California Community College Men's Basketball program into a perennial winner. Before his arrival, Cabrillo had never won a Conference Championship in the history of the school. Nearly 350 wins later, including ten (10) Coast Conference South Division championships in the past thirteen (13) years, Marcopulos coached teams were always among the best in Northern California. In addition, he has coached ten (10) conference MVP's and was Coast Conference South Division Coach of the Year ten (10) times. Coach Marcopulos is the winningest men's basketball coach in Cabrillo College history. Equally as important, Marcopulos has mentored 90% of his student-athletes to earn degrees from Cabrillo College.
Currently, Coach Marcopulos, after his recent retirement from coaching, continues at Cabrillo College as a tenured Professor in the Kinesiology Department.
