About me
I have been involved in music for nearly twenty five years. I have pursued interests in live performance, concert organisation, recording, mixing, production, label management, and directing. My ability to conceptualise clearly and communicate concisely both musically and socially, allow me to work alone, or in concert with others very effectively. I have worked on recording and live music projects with Kenwyn House (Reef) Mitch Glover (Kosheen) and Gary Shaw (Sherman Robertson + Jimmy Witherspoon) and Jim Shaw and Ben Baxter (Cranes) I have been playing live and recording for the past twenty three years. I have playing experience with lots of different styles of music - rock, pop, folk, country, musical theatre, r+b, prog, metal, disco, punk, world, acoustic, blues, reggae, jazz, funk and dance. Most recently, I am working on a live performance 90's dance music project called 'House of Anthems' playing hits such as 'Finally', 'Flowers', 'Sing it back', 'How Deep is Your Love', 'Lady' and 'One Kiss amongst others.
I have a good deal of experience with a range of instrument types such as bass, double bass, vocals, guitar, piano and keys, drums and percussion. I also have some experience of arranging in a jazz style, with saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, oboe, clarinet and vocal. I have lots of experience working with click and backing tracks and putting productions together for acts and bands for corporate shows and touring. I have worked for different music agents such as Tailored Entertainment and Empire Leisure among others. I have undertaken some cruise ship work. I co-run a small regional music agency, The South Coast Collective, which draws on musicians that have previously studied with me. We play all over the south coast and London at bars and clubs, weddings and corporate events. I run my own record label, Alcubierre Music, and I write, record, produce and mix my own works and release a new piece every six to eight weeks, in various styles.
I have twenty years of experience teaching in FE colleges. I teach across all levels and all subjects in all areas of music - HND (level 4 and 5), A level, BTEC level 2 and 3 in both performance and music technology. My teaching specialism is the management of groups of musicians in rehearsal and production situations. Scenarios can range from prepping arrangements, streamlining productions, Instructing on individual parts like vocal harmonies or guitar and piano parts. I am currently also head of jazz at Alton college, where there is a focus on standards and composition in the modern industry.
