afg academy is a spin-off of afg media. afg media is a company that produces videos for businesses utilizing Camtasia, PowerPoint and VideoScribe.
It was founded by Michael Hickey of Fort Worth, Texas, and he now resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
After an Air Force career, Hickey began his business career as a sales and marketing expert, having been trained by the likes of Zig Ziglar, Bryan Tracy, Tom Hopkins and The Dale Carnegie Institute.
After selling several successful businesses, Hickey became enamored by the video and presentation business and started afg media. Along the way, he became a big fan of Sal Kahn of the Kahn Academy, a world famous teaching platform whose mantra is “A free world-class education for anyone anywhere.” It was here he was introduced to Camtasia, the video screen-capture and editing program.
While gaining proficiency in Camtasia and PowerPoint from studying with the best practitioners he could find, he noticed that the 2nd sentence in the Wikipedia entry for PowerPoint starts, “The benefits of PowerPoint are continuously debated. The term “PowerPoint hell’ has been coined for long, tedious PowerPoint presentations that bore the audience.”
Having come from a family of teachers, some of whom are famous, Hickey founded afg academy with one of its missions being to pass along any information and/or knowledge that would help presenters to NOT give boring presentations and the popularity of Udemy made it a likely platform to teach this.
