About me
Hello, my name is Adam King and I wanted to thank you for joining me on this journey of emotional intelligence and leadership. In this journey that has spanned various facets of public service and community engagement, I have continuously demonstrated a profound commitment to emotional intelligence and leadership. My story is one of dedication, resilience, and a deep-seated belief in the potential for positive change.
My career began in the challenging environment of public safety and corrections. From 2014 to 2018, I served as a Sheriff's Correctional Officer and Field Training Officer. In this role, I was entrusted with the crucial task of maintaining the security and order of the correctional facility. My responsibilities were extensive and varied, from booking inmates and conducting thorough searches to overseeing various inmate activities to ensure their well-being and adherence to facility regulations.
One of the most critical aspects of my job was assisting medical staff with the distribution of medications and addressing the health needs of inmates. This role required a keen understanding of the complex needs of individuals within the facility, and my ability to prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records was essential for legal and administrative purposes. Additionally, my insights and evidence, often called upon in court, played a pivotal role in the justice process.
As a Crisis Support Officer and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Coordinator, my focus shifted towards supporting jail diversion programs for individuals with mental health issues. I facilitated access to community services, ensuring that inmates received the necessary support for their rehabilitation. My role involved advising on jail diversion plans, which were instrumental in reducing recidivism and promoting mental health recovery.
My success in this role was largely driven by my emotional intelligence and leadership abilities. Recognizing the complex needs and emotions of inmates allowed me to manage situations with empathy and authority, ensuring that both security and rehabilitation goals were met. My ability to connect with and understand the individuals I worked with fostered a supportive environment where positive change was possible. As a leader, I provided guidance and mentorship to new officers, sharing my knowledge and experience to build a competent and compassionate team.
In 2018, I transitioned to the role of Deputy Probation Officer, where my responsibilities became even more comprehensive and multifaceted. I conducted in-depth investigations, interviewing probationers and their families to gather crucial information and generate detailed reports. This investigative work was foundational to making informed recommendations about probation suitability and ensuring the safety of the community.
In this role, I interacted with a diverse range of individuals, including adults, juveniles, their families, and other stakeholders. A key aspect of my role involved conducting public risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of supervision for probationers. I supervised probationers both in the field and in the office, monitoring their activities and treatment programs to ensure compliance with court orders. When probation conditions were not met, I took necessary actions, including filing violations and making arrests. My work extended to providing public education through seminars on drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse, and related laws, aiming to prevent future offenses and promote rehabilitation.
My advancement in this role can be attributed to my strong leadership and emotional intelligence. By understanding the emotional and psychological needs of probationers, I have been able to provide more effective supervision and support. My ability to lead with empathy and authority has helped in building trust and cooperation with probationers, which is crucial for their rehabilitation. Moreover, my leadership in training and compliance has ensured that the team operates at the highest standards of professionalism and effectiveness.
