Pitching for investment - break the bad rules of presenting!
7 Lectures 34:48

To pitch for investment you need to have a great story about your company and deliver it really well! This academy will help you create and shape your content so it is free from jargon and dead language. After the shaping then comes the delivery - we look at techniques for stage and screen and apply them to your pitch. If you are not a startup but need to make an impact (job interview, promotion, managing your team, wedding speech) this academy is also for you. There is always a problem and a solution, there is always a need for a story. In this first video we look at the culture we live in - the culture of boring presentations, the bad habits that trap us and we then break them off. Once the habits are broken, we can move into building a foundation of great story-telling free from anything that will weigh us down.

To make a great cake, you need key ingredients. It is just the same with a story. No matter what your story is, it must have a beginning, middle and end with picture and emotion, Without this, the story won't stand. So In this lecture you will learn how to get these key ingredients and shape your story around them. Get ready to hit pause, to write your own story and to share it with someone - time to leave the comfort zone!

Creating a solid story - how to do it really simply.

Now you know how to build the house of a great story, it's time to fill the rooms with the look and feel of your company. Most people get lost in jargon and meandering content. You need to have your audience nodding all the time and following a clear narrative. So in this lecture you will learn some hacks to very simply describe the problem you are solving, the solution you are bringing and the differentiation between you and the competition, all in the format of a story. Learning is best embedded by doing, so get ready to write and to find an audience to share with. Start with your phone but make sure move onto a person!

Script Surgery - what to put in it.

If you can't explain your product to a child, you can't explain it to an adult. In this final lecture on content you will be led through a simple but profound story-shaping exercise (PHD) to make sure you are using all your creative juices to create the best story you can, to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and being led by you. You will take all the work you have done and start to create "light and shade", engaging different sides of your audience's brain and simplifying anything complex.

Presentation technique - Posture.

Most of us speak from our throats and lose our voices very easily, or we struggle to be heard, we lose confidence in our words, we can;t finish our sentences ... The list goes on. The answer to this problem lies in learning simple breathing technique. You will learn technique taken from the stage and will apply it to your body. If you can breathe from the right place you can speak from the diaphragm and speak with power. If you breathe correctly you will speak in short sentences. If you can breathe properly you will be calm even in the storm!

Presentation technique - Breathing.

Presentation technique - Voice part 1.

Story-telling coach at Udemy - voice, body, words, impact

In 2011 a friend asked me to help her speak in public. I gave her some vocal techniques I had learnt as an actor and in 20 minutes she was transformed. That is where Amplify was born. Now, in 2017, I work with the corporate giants (Microsoft, PWC, Hitachi, Telefonica) and the Startup Accelerators (Techstars, Startup Bootcamp, Microsoft Ventures, Ignite ...) to unlock their voices. Ultimately it is about building confidence and if you give people the right technique and encourage them to embed it in them, they are able to see transformation. I love my job and see people's voices and stories unlocked every day. I recorded this academy to have a go at putting online what I believe is a catalyst for transformation!
