Course Description

**June 2016 update** Course has been fully redesigned from scratch and a ton of new content has been added. Hope you enjoy!

Welcome to Ultimate guide to Trigonometry. This course will have all the different topics covered between Grade 7 and 10, therefore will be a comprehensive A-Z guide. The topics are in a sequential order, gradually going up in difficulty, so you can work your way through them at your own pace depending on what you're doing at school.

What will this course have and who will benefit?

This course is going to cover all the concepts that will be covered in school from basic trigonometry topics such as Pythagoras' Theorem through to more advanced topics such as Angles of Elevation and Depression. During my time as a tutor, I've seen students really struggle to grasp the different elements of this topic, so this course can serve as a permanent reference point for you guys going forward.

If you're high school at the moment and have started doing trigonometry, then this course will be a big help because it can either complement your studies at school or serve as the official guide. I will step you through every topic systematically and run through a number of questions to really help you cement your learning.

A lot of my students are actually parents who are home schooling their kids, so if you're someone looking to brush up on your knowledge to help your kids at home, I know this course along with all my other courses will be a big help.

I go through every single topic in a step by step form so it's really easy for you to follow along. Not convinced? Then I suggest you check out the previews before you decide to enroll, to make sure my teaching style is easy to follow, I am very confident that it is. To go a step further, Udemy's 30-day money back guarantee should also make you feel at ease.

What topics will the course cover?

I'll cover the following topics in the course:

Pythagoras' Theorem:

  1. Right-angled triangles
  2. Finding the hypotenuse
  3. Finding the other sides
  4. Composite shapes
  5. Pythagorean triples
  6. Pythagoras' Theorem in 3-Dimensions

  1. Introducing SOH, CAH and TOA
  2. Calculating unknown side lengths
  3. Calculating unknown angles
  4. Angles of elevation and depression
  5. Bearings and compass directions
  6. Word problems

Non right-angled triangles:

  1. Sine rule
  2. Cosine rule
  3. Heron's Formula
  4. Word problems

Why Trigonometry?

Trigonometry is a huge part of maths at school and it's a shame that a lot of the fundamentals are just not taught properly by teachers and then students are expected to do quite advanced operations in higher grades. That's why I created this course for you guys so you always have a reference point and furthermore always have access to me when you need help :)

**BONUS** I've also added worksheets (with answers) for each chapter to help you further test and implement your learning from the lectures.

I'm working on a number of courses like this, which cover a variety of maths topics. I'll keep you guys updated as I release them :)

Something missing in the course?

If you find I haven't covered a topic that you need at this level, let me know on the discussion board and I'll be happy to add it in :)

I can guarantee that you'll be miles ahead of the competition if you take this course seriously and best part about being able to do it all is that you can teach others as well. When you're willing to spend upwards of $50 an hour for a private tutor, it seems like a no brainer to at least give this a go, so that you have access to your very own private tutor any time you wish.

I'm good with messages and emails so if you have questions, make sure to get in touch with me. And furthermore, I want you guys to make full use of the discussion board because one of the best ways to learn is by sharing your knowledge with others. Thanks guys, really hope you enjoy.

What are the requirements?

  • I cover everything from A-Z in this course so students will simply need to bring some pen and paper to each lecture and practise alongside with me.

What am I going to get from this course?

  • Perform at a very high level in regards to trigonometric topics.
  • Tackle more challenging questions at grades 11 and 12, as they'll have a very strong foundation.
  • Have a permanent reference point for topics that they weren't able to grasp at school.

Who is the target audience?

  • Students in high school doing trigonometry or Pythagoras' Theorem
  • Parents who are home-schooling their children will definitely benefit from this course.

Section 1: Introduction to Ultimate guide to Trigonometry

In this lecture, I detail all the different topics that we'll be covering in this course and give some examples on what you can expect in each chapter. This lecture will help you determine the content that will be covered.

Section 2: Pythagoras' Theorem

By the end of this lecture, you'll have a strong understanding of the application of right-angled triangles in Pythagoras' Theorem and Trigonometry as a whole.

By the end of this lecture, you'll know how to use Pythagoras' Theorem to find the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle.

By the end of this lecture, you'll know how to use Pythagoras' Theorem to find the shorter sides of a right-angled triangle.

By the end of this lecture, you'll learn how to find the sides of a right-angled triangle that is part of a bigger shape i.e. composite shape. Being able to work efficiently with composite shapes is an important skill with Trigonometry as it has numerous applications.

By the end of this lecture, you'll be able to effectively work out Pythagorean triples. These triples are basically 3 numbers that satisfy the theorem and we'll work on some efficient ways to decipher how to know if 3 numbers satisfy the theorem.

By the end of this lecture, you'll be able to find calculate the dimensions of right-angled triangles as set out within a 3-dimensional shape. A very common example is a right-angle inside that of a rectangular prism.

By the end of this lecture, you'll understand how to use Pythagoras' Theorem to with pyramids. I also take you through some typical worded problems.

Section 3: Trigonometry in right-angled triangles

By the end of this lecture, you'll fully understand the concepts of SOH, CAH and TOA. It is a very common expression that is fundamental to trigonometry. We'll learn what they are, what they stand for and how we use them to solve trigonometric problems.

By the end of this lecture, you'll be able use SOH, CAH and TOA to solve for unknown side lengths in a right-angled triangle.

By the end of this lecture, you'll be able use SOH, CAH and TOA to solve for unknown angles in a right-angled triangle.

By the end of this lecture, you'll understand the concepts of angles of elevation and depression thoroughly and will be able to sketch any scenario effectively in order to answer such a question. This topic is covered extensively at the Grade 9 and 10 level and is an important requirement for 11 and 12 as well.

By the end of this lecture, you will be able to understand the difference between true bearings and compass bearings. You will be able to solve different types of questions involving direction and tackle relevant worded problems.

By the end of this lecture, you will be able to understand the difference between true bearings and compass bearings. You will be able to solve different types of questions involving direction and tackle relevant worded problems.

Word problems are a big part of trigonometry as there are several different scenarios that can be applied to it. By the end of this lecture, you'll know how to deal with several different types of problem solving scenarios. I'll show you typical patterns that come across a multitude of questions so you'll see that worded problems aren't actually that unique or challenging each time.

Section 4: Trigonometry with non right-angled triangles

In this lecture, we learn to the use The Sine Rule to determine the sides and angles of a non right-angled triangle.

In this lecture, we learn to the use The Cosine Rule to determine the sides and angles of a non right-angled triangle.

In this lecture, we will learn about Heron's Formula and how we can use it to find the area of a triangle.

In this lecture, we will apply the Sine and Cosine rules to problem solving questions.

Instructor Biography

Chanda Academy, Education provider

Hi guys, my name is Adi Chanda. I've been teaching maths for almost 10 years now to students of all ages. My experience has given me some great insights on what works for students and what doesn't. After seeing a number of students struggle with basic high school maths, I decided to upload these step by step instructional videos that take you through some of the basic maths topics.

I decided to create the 'Chanda Academy', with the hopes of one day providing access to these videos to people all around the world, who don't have access to quality education today. I want to harness the power of the internet and bring these courses to anyone and everyone so that there can be more empowered adults in the world going forward.

As for the videos themselves, I only employ methods that have been tried and tested over the years so I'm confident that these will be an invaluable tool for anyone looking for that leg up in their maths knowledge. I have plans to grow the library of videos on Chanda Academy by collaborating with experts in other fields like Science, History etc. in the future. I want it to be a one-stop shop for students worldwide.

Personally, I love teaching Maths to students of all ages so I couldn't think of a better way to make an impact on a global scale. I want to continuously create great resources for you guys, so please feel free to provide any suggestions you may have. I'm going to make up a ton of courses across a wide variety of topics at all levels. If there are specific topics you'd like me to cover definitely let me know.

What are my qualifications?

I have an Electrical Engineering degree and work as a technical product manager in a leading telco company here in Melbourne, Australia, making maths a vital part of my everyday life. I fell into teaching almost accidentally when I was 18; I loved it so much that I decided to start doing it more professionally and have been tutoring ever since. I've had some really great successes over the years but I was dissatisfied with only being able to reach students locally. Then I heard about Udemy...and well as they say the rest is history :)

I love hearing from you guys so please don't be shy and send me a message with whatever's on your mind...doesn't even have to be Maths related :)
