"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." Antoine De Saint-Exupery - The Little Prince

The more you understand yourself and how you see the world, the easier it is to find work that:

1) You are excited about

2) Aligns with your talents

3) Enables you to do your BEST

Here we are going to talk how to reflect your true self ... as the foundation to your search for IDEAL work.

1.0 Reflect Your True Self - Who am I?

1.1 Overview: Understand Natural Preferences

1.1 Workbook: Understand Natural Preferences

Reflect Your True Self - WORKBOOK

1.2 Document Observations of YOU

1.2 Workbook: Document Observations of YOU

1.3 Envision Your Future

1.3 Workbook: Envision Your Future

“In flow, we feel that our abilities are well matched to the opportunities for action” – Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi – author of Flow

Think about what experiences have created flow for you in the past…what did that feel like? You know, the mix of skills and challenges that create an experience where we lose track of time and do our best work. And how can we find more flow in our work or life?

2.0 Understand Work Flow - What is my BEST work?

2.1 Workbook: Highlight Top Experiences

2.2 Workbook: Reflect on Work Experiences

2.3 Workbook: Analyze Work Environment

“Now imagine the people you would like to work with; people you would love to collaborate with or work for. Know that they may or may not be the actual ones who are meant to be on your path in life; they may simply represent an image of the kinds of people who are doing the kinds of projects you yearn to be part of.” Marianne Williamson – Divine Law

There is no perfect job ... but you can find your ideal work based on the work you enjoy doing & the conditions that are optimal for you.

1)You want to go where you can do your BEST work – Type of Work (think of Myers Briggs)

2)You want to work with people that will recognize your rock-star qualities – Work Environment (think of conditions)

3.0 Design Ideal Work Lanes - What am I looking for?

3.1 Workbook: Describe Ideal Type of Work

3.2 Workbook: Create Ideal Work Environment Filter

3.3 Workbook: Design Work Lanes

“Perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound reinvention.” Conan O'Brien

We all have roadblocks that impact our search for ideal work. Examples of blocks include “I just need a job”, “I should be happy in my job”, and “I should have known better”. We also carry subtle roadblocks in our job search like a fear of rejection or we just don't like some part of our work story.

The roadblock is your inflection point. Roadblocks never REALLY go away. When we uncover our blocks, we are able to name them and recognize where they show up in our work and life. We can understand a failure, mistake or fear --- through a lens of learning rather than as a barrier. This helps us move forward despite our roadblocks.

Its time to uncover and conquer those roadblocks!

4.0 Conquer Roadblocks - Whats holding me back?

4.1 Workbook: Identify & conquer roadblocks

4.2 Workbook: Fear Setting

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Your resume is your opportunity to showcase your BEST stuff to recruiters and hiring mangers. Yet, most resumes have one of these issues: 1) Poor formatting 2) Lacking accomplishments 3) Reads like a job description.

Your LinkedIn profile focuses on your BEST highlights from your resume.

Learn how to REALLY stand out with your resume and LinkedIn ...

5.0 Showcase Your BEST YOU - How do I stand out?

5.1 Workbook: Launch Your BEST Resume

5.2 Workbook: Boost Your LinkedIn Profile

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius

If all we do in our search for work is look at job boards, we miss most jobs that exist in the hidden job market ... and we leave our search to chance and timing. To solve for this problem, my all-time favorite place to research work is with LinkedIn.

  • LinkedIn shows us the inside scoop of who is in what job at what location and company. You can use the LinkedIn free advanced function to get the real deal on what and where jobs exist in the market.
  • If you like where you work, leverage your contacts to learn about lateral opportunities in other functions that match your ideal work.
1.0 Find Your Future Work - What positions are interesting?

1.1 Workbook: Research Jobs

1.2 Workbook: Filter Ideal Work

“Corporate culture matters. How management chooses to treat its people impacts everything - for better or for worse.” - Simon Sinek

Researching companies is a great way to filter organizations that will better align with your ideal work environment. If you do your homework, you are going to naturally focus on the companies that will REALLY like your skills & experience and connect with you. The difference between a candidate who gets the job offer and the one that does not usually comes down to the candidate that displays a genuine interest and excitement about the company, team and work.

“The good news — and it is largely good news — is that everyone has a chance to stand out. Everyone has a chance to learn, improve, and build up their skills. Everyone has a chance to be a brand worthy of remark.” Tom Peters

In order to visualize yourself in a new job, promotion, or project, you have to know and agree to your OWN value proposition in the workforce. The journey in our career is reflecting on our accomplishments, learning where and when we do our BEST work, and sharing that with our target audience to create our value proposition.

3.3 Workbook: Your Pitch

Take Action
12 Lectures 57:23

“All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.” - Bob Burg

Trust equity is something that we build over time with people at work and in our personal life. We can all relate to the currency of trust. How do you feel when you work with someone you trust? What is the value of your trustworthy co-worker or boss or friend? How did they gain your trust? How do you feel when you work with someone who doesn't trust you?

Rather than start with cold calling and e-mailing… go to your trust equity network first. Use your trust equity network to ask for advice. People in your trust equity network will carve out time to share ideas. They can be a bridge from where you are now to possibilities you may not yet see in your future work.

1.1 Workbook: Leverage Trust Equity Network

1.2 Workbook: Expand Your Network

1.3 Workbook: Connect with Network

“If life gives you lemons, don't settle for simply making lemonade – make a glorious scene at a lemonade stand.” Elizabeth Gilbert

Applying for work is all about taking action on posted positions AND taking action to find work in the "hidden job market". According to some estimates, the hidden job market accounts for up to 80% of hiring.

So, how can we take strategic and focused action in the hidden job market? Tips include being strategic about how and when you network, join a professional networking group locally to build connections, contact target employers directly (and in various ways), attend conferences, and if you like your current employer - make sure to explore and expand connections within your current employer.

The key here is to bridge your market offering directly into the market through strategic action. Love what you have to offer, share what you can offer, and repeat.

2.0 Apply for Work - How do I apply with focus?

2.1 Workbook: Start the 100 Challenge

2.2 Workbook: Customize resume/cover e-mail

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Stop Asking & Start Doing: Rather than look or ask for work, this all about doing the work you REALLY want to do in small experiments. When you start expanding your skills that relate to your ideal work, you also expand your confidence & your perceived value in the market.

“The difference between an amateur and a professional is in their habits. An amateur has amateur habits. A professional has professional habits. We can never free ourselves from habit. But we can replace bad habits with good ones.” - Steven Pressfield, the War of Art

This is all about adding one good habit to your daily routine. It is impossible for me to discuss big ideas on launching your ideal work & life without addressing habits. When I think about habits … I think of Habits = Energy. Good habits = good energy.

3.0 Build Habits & Experience - How do I experiment?

3.1 Workbook: Build Experience

3.2 Workbook: Build Mindful Habits

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." Seneca, Roman philosopher

One of the BEST ways to improve your interview A-Game is to document your best accomplishments and experiences. Once you complete your interview examples, these become integral in your interview preparation.

Without documenting your best examples and experiences, we can have long-winded answers or weak examples that make us seem less confident in interview discussions. After we complete our interview prep examples, our focus becomes all about describing and showcasing our BEST skills. By doing this, you are significantly helping the recruiter, hiring manager, interviewers really understand what YOU are all about. And, you will be able to have more of a conversational/relaxed interview, have more fun, and get deep with the interview team.

With this strategic preparation for interviews, you are putting yourself in the best position to get the edge and land the offer.

1.0 Bring Your Interview A-Game - How do I have a great interview?

1.1 Workbook: Prepare for Any Interview

1.2 Workbook: Prepare for a Job Interview

1.3 Workbook: Practice, Practice, Practice

"Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action." Peter Drucker

This module is all about reflecting what matters most to us … our ideal work, ideal type of environment, and how to connect THAT to what we are really looking for. How can we leverage rejection? How can we negotiate an offer with clarity and confidence? How can we make an informed decision about whether to accept or decline an offer? Lets jump right in ...

2.0 Reflect & Navigate Opportunities – How do I navigate?

2.1 Workbook: Reflect and Align Post Interviews

2.2 Workbook: Accept/Decline Assessment
