|Section 1: Basic intro to Quilting: How to make a quilt from start to finish, step by step|
Introduction : who I am and why I've created this course!
In this lesson we will talk about fabric selection and choosing fabrics that go well together. We will also talk about how much yardage you will need -See PDF attachment below for fabric amounts and cutting instructions
Ironing your fabrics may be a little boring, but it's so important and necessary.
Think of it as relaxing and therapeutic and you'll be liking it just fine by the time I'm done with you.
One of the most important parts of making a quilt is making sure that we cut very precisely and meticulously. Straight lines make straight seams and perfect squares or rectangles.
In is segment, I'll teach you techniques of cutting straight and even lines. Take your time and don't try to rush through this process.
See PDF attachment in previous lecture for cutting sizes
You will need the following tools to cut precise, evenly measured pieces for your quilt:
Long quilting ruler (6"wide)
Ok cool, we get to start seeing a vision of what our quilt will look like. In this segment, you'll learn how to layout your quilt in a way that is most pleasing to the eye.
See PDF attachment for a diagram of how the quilt layout will look
Finally, we get to start doing some sewing!
Now that we've got our quilt laid out and we've decided that we like how it looks, we will start to bring it to life, and sew the pieces together
Now we will learn how to sew the rows together, and how to match up the blocks and seams, to make the corners look right.
Hooray! Our top is complete and we get to see the beauty of our work so far. I've shown here a couple pictures of mine
This is where it starts getting fun!
We get to put our quilt together and really start to see how it's going to turn out.
In this segment we will cover creating the back of the quilt, and putting together the 3 pieces
In this section, we learn the importance of pinning all the layers together well.
In this lecture, I will teach you how to do the "quilting", the stitching that you normally see all over a quilt. Quilting can be very simple or very detailed. For this course, we will be covering how to do it very simply.
This video just shows how we can now cut off all the extra fabric from the back and binding, after we've quilted it all. There's usually a lot of excess fabric scraps-be sure to save those for future projects! :)
Here is where I will teach you how to cut the binding, fold and iron it in half, and then sew onto the top of your quilt.
Ironing and sewing on the binding to the quilt
In this final video, I will show you how to hand-stitch your binding, on the back side. This gives your quilt a beautiful, finished look.
Congratulations! You've finished the course and completed a gorgeous quilt. I hope you enjoy it for years to come. I also hope that this is just the start of your obsession with quilting and that you will have fallen in love with it as much as I have.
I hope to see you in the future for more creative courses!
