Section 1: Welcome!

Welcome to the 1st grade Math, Number and Operations in Base Ten course! This is a short overview of what to expect, and how to use these lectures to teach your child math!

Section 2: Extend the Counting Sequence

This lecture will cover how to count from 0 to 100. Many 1st graders can do this, however it is something that they have memorized and they don't truly know each of the numbers and where they lie in relation to other numbers in counting order.

This lecture will cover counting on from any number, up to 100. The goal is for your student to be able to start counting from any number, without having to start over at 1.

This lecture will cover reading and writing numbers to 100. It is important to make sure that your student can read (using digits) and write numbers, in addition to the skills we have covered so far, which mainly include verbal counting and numbers.

This lecture will focus on numbers from 100-120. You can also revisit any of the lectures so far and complete the same activities, only using numbers up to 120 to be sure that your student has a good grasp on these numbers as well.

Section 3: Understand Place Value

This lecture will cover the basics of place value using the ones and tens place, as well as introducing base 10 blocks.

In this lecture we will be able to create and identify a number using base ten blocks in different ways. We will group 10 ones into a "ten" to see the "best" way to create a number.

This lecture focuses on the teen numbers, and using the knowledge of place value and base ten blocks to help your student have a firm understanding of teen numbers.

This lecture focuses on the number words we use for all the groups of ten, up to 100. We will work on knowing the number name for these groups of 10 without having to count by tens.

Lecture 10: Comparing Numbers
