In this lecture you keep on building a rock-solid Excel foundation!

Remember that we are laying a solid foundation from which to launch off. Learning the Elements of the Excel screen will put you light years ahead of the "self-taught" users.

Let's keep on learning!

¡Sigamos aprendiendo!

There are 1,048,576 rows in Excel, and 16,384 columns. How would you know that your marquee in on cell DX8110, and what the contents of that cell are? Do you have to scroll all the way over to column DX and down to Row 8110?

Before we can learn how to build formulas in Excel, we better remember some basic math.

Let's learn the Order of Operations.

When you are building formulas in Excel, you must remember that you are adding, dividing, multiplying, cells. It's the contents of the cells that changes, the formula remains the same.

It's time to practice what you have been learning, and write your first formula. As you succeed at writing your first formula, you will notice something odd happening in your results.

Oh no! How can you solve this! Simple--Absolute Referencing.

How do you keep a ship from drifting? Anchor it! What does anchoring have to do with formulas?

Step into this lesson, and let's make your Relative References--Absolute!

Once you learn the basics of formulas, you are going to run into situations where you begin to realize, "There's got to be a better way?"

Here is an example of using a basic formula, and realizing that it is time look into learning some Functions.

You can manually do the math, or you can have Excel do the math. Which would you prefer?

Ever hear of the SUM? What about the DATE? You must have heard of the VLOOKUP?

What are they? These are functions in Excel. Think functions as pre-programmed formulas.

The most commonly used function in Excel is the AutoSum (Alt+=).

No more =E1+E2+E3+E4+E5+E6+E7+E8+E9.

With the AutoSum you change that formula to SUM(E1:E9) - that's it!

And there is so much more! Let Excel do the math!

Abundance is the rule here - no scarcity!

Ever press Print, and what gets printed is not what you are looking at on your computer screen?

Before pressing Print, it is advisable to preview how your spreadsheet is going to print. So let's learn how to use the Print Preview Full Screen, and the Print Preview and Print.

Have you ever asked this, Why does Excel always print out one page that looks good, then 3 blank pages, then a piece of one, and then another blank page, etc?

The answer is - you have to tell Excel exactly what it is you want printed. In other words, Set Print Area.

Now that you have Set Print Area, that does not necessarily mean that your selection is going to all print on one page.

Learn how to Fit to One Page, and fine tune your settings so that your printout is clearly legible.

What if you wanted to have specific details like page number, file name, date, time, etc., printed on the top, or bottom of your printout?

Learn hoe to apply custom headers, as well as preset headers, and footers.
