Some Pre-Requisites and Resources
Hello and welcome to this course. Join me on this journey of SSRS. Please feel free to connect with me and ask questions on the forum as you progress along this course.
Let's have a brief look how to get started with SSRS.
We will be installing SQL Server Database Engine, some sample databases (ex. AdventureWorks DB) and Installing and configuring SQL Reporting services.
We create our first SSRS report using the inbuilt Wizard. We have a look at the various settings, Visual Studio and SSRS tools.
We take a Step forward and learn about creating a completely manual SSRS report.
We now improve on the report that we just created. We look at various ways to add parameters and various techniques to have an user input the parameter values at runtime.
Let's take it up a notch! Let me walk you through cascading parameters and multiple parameters driving the data in Reports.
Let's look at how to dynamically create custom column values, colors, fonts, values, and almost anything using simple expressions. This will broaden your view on SSRS and you will realize how powerful and flexible SSRS is.
I will walk you through some techniques to display data. I will show how to display simple tables, which rows and columns, then I will walk you though Matrix reports (which is like a pivot table in Excel), and finally, I will show you how to create a template and govern where you data should be displayed (example: Newsletter, Business Cards etc.)
What is reporting without graphs. We walked through various techniques to display data. But did you know SSRS can display data as graphs/Charts/Maps etc.? Let me walk you through some visualization concepts.
Did you ever have a need to connect 2 reports and show it in a single dashboard? I am sure you did. In this lecture, I will show you how to mimic a "Iframe" and embed 1 report in another.
In this last lecture, we look at Map and deployment techniques. We also walk through some BI Stack tools and next steps.
After completing this course, you will be comfortable creating simple to complex reports, Graphs and Maps. This course will complete the BI tool set consisting of SQL, ETL and Reporting (you can refer to my SQL Server and ETL courses, if you want to learn more). This course, will walk you through basic installation and environment setup to different SSRS techniques to create reports and visualization. We also cover concepts like displaying data using Tables, Matrices and Lists. We will walk through how to create highly dynamic reports. We walk through the powerful concepts of SSRS expressions, where you can dynamically render Colors, Fonts, Data and control the Report look and feel.
After taking all 3 courses, students will know what will be expected of a DB developer, ETL Developer or a Reporting Analyst type job. The complete BI Tool Suite course will help you get prepared for interviews and jobs. It will show you all facilities that these tools provide.
By taking all the 4 courses in this toolset, I can assure you that you will have a very good understanding of how the different Microsoft Business Intelligence tools interact with one another, and how a typical day in the life of Database developer, ETL Developer, Analyst or Reporting Analyst look like.
