If you love designing websites and would like to increase your income at doing it, then this course is perfect for you. If you have a 9 to 5 job, I can only ask you why.
I have been running my own web design firm since 1995 and have designed hundreds of websites for businesses of all sizes all over the world. In 2005, I lost my job and instead of looking for a job, I decided to just start my business and give it a shot. I never looked back. I am going on my 13th year of working out of my house as a business owner designing websites.
I want to share my knowledge, experience and success strategies with you in this course as well as help with documentation that you need to get your web design business up and running.
This course includes most of the important operating and legal documents that you need to legally and properly run your business.
In this course, some of the concepts that I teach include, but are not limited to:
- The very basics of starting a web design business
- How to get clients
- Keeping clients
- Eliminating the competition in your local area by allying with other web design firms
- Sales and marketing strategies
- Building a team
- Interviews with other web designers
- Pricing strategies when customers try to talk you down
- Keeping up with the technology and adding it to your service catalog
- Share my personal blog posts with you
- Reveal my own pricing strategy and provide advice on how to add new services as clients demand them
- Writing my proposals for getting clients and increasing sales
- Outsourcing to get other developers to work for you.
I used to wear all the hats and no longer do, so my web design business is flowing well and I am going to teach you what I know to become successful running a web design business from your home or apartment.
- This course is for any web designer who would like to become self employed
- For any current small business owners who would like to add web design to their list of services
Thank you for signing up for this course. If you are looking to work at home and be your own boss with a legitimate web design business, this course is for you. In this course, I want to share with you and teach you everything that I know. Although I have been designing and developing websites for 20 years, I have only been running my own business for almost 11 years. I explain more in this video.
What is a typical day on the job? What do I spend time doing to make the business run successfully? Well, I can tell you that I do NOT spend 20 hours a day and sleep only 4 hours like some business owners. I usually stop at 2:00 in the afternoon when my daughter comes home from school and I help her study or play with her. I explain that in this video lecture.
In today's competitive world of web design, you need to be a one-stop shop, but you do not need to know how to do everything. I sure don't, but I balance it all pretty well with other people. I also show you how to leverage your competitors to do work for you for very little money.
There are many different types of businesses from unincorporated mom and pop shops to corporations. Which one is right for you? I explain what type of company my business Hot Web Ideas is and how you can decide on the best direction to go.
Running a successful web development business takes work like any other business, but our industry is special which means special operating guidelines.
This quiz tests you on both general business operating guidelines and advice specifically for web design businesses.
How do you meet with clients when you have a home and you do not want them to come in. What if you have a small apartment that does not make you look professional? Do you meet the clients in their homes and apartments? Do you meet them in the middle? What if they live 5 countries away from you? Yes, my clients are located both in my own home town and all over the world. In this video, I show you how to make the distinction on where to meet your clients.
How Much Do You Charge For A Website? Ugh! I used to hate that question from new clients. They put you on the spot and make you come up with a price, or do they? Do you walk into a McDonalds and ask how much dinner is? No, you look at a menu. Do you walk into a car dealership and ask how much a car is? Definitely not, so why are clients asking you how much a website is. Watch this video and I will share with you my insights in how to professionally and properly put clients in their place when they expect you to give them a price without knowing what they want first.
Advertising! Marketing! Social Media! Search engine rankings! Do you need them all? How much is this going to cost you? Do you even have a budget for all of that? I have another way of getting more qualified clients and it almost costs you nothing, even cheaper than a Facebook ad or a Google Adwords campaign. Stay with me in this lecture and I will save you money getting new clients.
Ah the proposal. They are very boring and tedious to write, but they are a necessary evil. Never take a deal without a proposal. In this video lecture, I give you a skeleton web design proposal and explain to you what all that legal stuff means.
Here is free advice even if you don't enroll in this course:
By the way, most importantly, if the client refuses to accept a proposal, don't take the job.
Competition. We love to hate it, but it is inevitable if you want to get into this business, especially web design. How do you compete with all of the other people out there doing what you do? I found a way and it has been working for me since day 1. Watch this video lecture.
