This is where we begin to learn about the R.E.A.C.H. method for achieving your dreams. R.E.A.C.H., while an acronym to guide you in going after your goals, is actually a mindset. In this lecture, we explore how early conditioning may have taught us to limit ourselves and, as a result, carry certain beliefs into adulthood that stymie future growth.

This lecture begins the explanation of the R.E.A.C.H. acronym with the letter "R". Lecture 6: Coaches' Credo on Defeating Obstacles

What are goals without a few barriers to their success? That's a rhetorical question, of course, but the reality is, you are likely to hit a few bumps on the road to success. In this lecture, we continue with the explanation of the acronym of R.E.A.C.H., and we are at "C", a discussion on developing a plan to defeat obstacles before they begin. You may be surprised to learn that a lot of obstacles begin with you but this lecture offers a little trick used by coaches with their clients to halt behaviors or activities that can threaten your goals.

Lecture 7: H: Your Driving Force to Achieve What You Want

The final letter in the R.E.A.C.H. acronym, "H", is what drives you, has you seeking something more or different to fulfill your dreams. In this lecture, we discuss J.K. Rowlings, Brad Pitt, Jay Z, Oskar Schindler, and Oprah as examples of "H", along with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and why it is necessary to clearly identify goals that inspire you if you are ever going to be fulfilled.

Lecture 8: About the Amygdala

Who would have guessed such a small thing in our brain could steer us away from AND help us spot opportunities to realize our goals?

This little almond-shaped area of our brain is somewhat of an enigma and in this lecture you will learn why but, more importantly, you will learn how to better manage this part of your brain, and your emotions, to achieve what you want.

Lecture 9: How the Amygdala Hijacks Your Brain

After learning the amygdala's size in Lecture 8, it is difficult to conceive how such a little thing can divert you from your life goals; but it can and does. This lecture looks at the ways the amygdala can overtake over your brain and also discusses the role and importance of emotional intelligence.

Lecture 10: What Happens to Goals in an Amygdala Hijack

In Lecture 9, you learned about hijacks. In this lecture you will learn what happens to your goals if you allow the hijack but, more importantly, you will learn what you can do to prevent a hijack from happening. We will also explore why you pursue some goals but not others, if you are susceptible to amygdala hijacks, and what it takes to really pursue your goals without worrying about diversions.

Lecture 11: Bandura on Human Behavior and Motivation

Work by American psychologist, Albert Bandura, provides the foundation in this lecture for you to identify the behaviors you need to acquire/exhibit to produce the outcome (goal) you wish to achieve. This lecture also discusses Bandura's research in support of self-regulation shaping your behavior as opposed to environmental factors, e.g., your parents, circumstances, etc.

Thus far, in this section, you learned about the amygdala, what happens when the amygdala hijacks your brain and goals, and Bandura's theory on your expectations for personal success. We now look at how the R.E.A.C.H. method, letter-by-letter, is applied to reaching your goals and discuss R.E.A.C.H.'s step-by-step process to help you persist in reaching your goals.

Lecture 13: About Point B Goals (and why you must know what they are)

Even when we're moving forward, going after our goals, we like to think we know what we want, we know where we are going, and that we know our purpose. If that is true, why, after reaching a particular goal, do we find ourselves still unfulfilled?

This lecture has you dig deeper than you may have previously to uncover your real goals, your real heart's desire, your purpose, your Point B goals. Point B goals are different from other goals and in this lecture you will learn how to distinguish Point B goals from other goals so you can stay on track to fulfilling your purpose.

Lecture 14: Clarifying Point B goals (if you are ever to get what you want)

So, you think you know what you want, right? This lecture may actually have you realize that what you say and think you want may just be a stepping stone to your real heart's desire, your Point B goals. We discuss how to distinguish between stepping stone and Point B goals and applying the R.E.A.C.H. method to achieve even more than you thought possible.

Lecture 15: R: Goal Commitment

In earlier lectures, we learned the acronym of R.E.A.C.H. to gain a better understanding of our goals and capabilities for reaching our goals. In this lecture, we begin applying the R.E.A.C.H. method to the goals you identified in earlier lectures to determine your level of commitment to those goals.

Lecture 16: E: Perception Control

We continue on with the R.E.A.C.H. method with the letter "E". As discussed in Lecture 4, you may have been saddled with past perceptions about yourself that are no longer true as you developed certain competencies and achieved different milestones throughout your life. In this lecture, we do a thorough examination of your current competencies to provide you with an accurate picture of who you are today and the skills and behaviors you have developed over many years. However, to achieve certain goals, you may have to develop additional competencies and skills. The exercise in this lecture provides you with a framework for identifying the competencies and skills needed of the person who would achieve the goal(s) you desire. When developing needed competencies and skills, your perception of you will, once again, change.

Lecture 17: A: Planning

If you are ever going realize your dreams, you must act. Unfortunately, we are sometimes stopped in our tracks because we don't know where to begin, especially when our dreams involve reaching. This lecture guides you through the process of plotting out the steps needed to achieve your dreams and has you identify current resources necessary in reaching your goal that you may not even be aware you possess. Thirdly, this lecture will have you identify what more you need to do to move you forward. This is your blueprint, your map for reaching your purpose.

Lecture 18: C: Persistence

What do Howard Carter, Walt Disney, and Thomas Edison have in common? Well, I think you already know the answer to that question: Persistence. You, no doubt, also already know how many times it took Edison to invent the light bulb and, intellectually, you likely understand the lesson in this example but this lecture reaches beyond the mere reiteration of persistence's message to have you look at obstacles as learning opportunities. This means you have nothing to fear when going after what you want as you will learn how to look at obstacles in a whole new way.

Lecture 19: H: Expecting More

This is my favorite part, the part where dreams enlarge and is the basis for R.E.A.C.H. This lecture asks you to examine your dreams, your goals to determine if you are reaching enough or if you are allowing past perceptions to limit what you truly want to achieve. But if you think dreaming bigger dreams is scary, then you will really want to listen to this lecture to learn how you can put your dreams into overdrive and with very little extra effort.

Hi, I'm Kathy Hammond and I want to help you design the life you want.

I have spent more than two decades as a business development executive and coach (although, I am loathe to use that term as it means I am on the sidelines when I am also in the game) and have been a featured speaker in South Africa and the US on personal and professional development as well as authoring numerous publications on goal setting, motivation, and workforce development. My first book, The Road to Nē, an allegory on goal setting and attainment, was published last year and is the recipient of three awards. I hold a M.A. in Organizational Management, studied Human Performance Improvement through the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), studied business coaching at the International Federation of Professional Coaches and Speakers (South Africa), and am a certified Corporate Speaker (International Association of Corporate Speakers).
