About This Course

Course Description

Mind Mapping isn't a new concept. It is, however, a largely untapped resource that most people either skip over or think themselves incapable of utilizing.

This course will help guide you through not only the steps and uses of mind mapping, but also the elements of deeper, insightful thinking. You will learn to utilize mind mapping in order to:

  • Discover solutions for problems
  • Organize your thoughts for study and research
  • Write presentations
  • Plan events
  • And more!

With two hours of content, this course gives you both experiences and information, and it does so with enough time to keep you engaged, yet without hours of repeated, unnecessary content. It also includes downloadable mind map templates to help get you started.

This course is designed to guide you through discovering radiant thinking, learning the basics of mind map structure, and then 7 ways to use mind maps in real world situations. It also includes countless mind maps I've used for years, so you have real examples to both validate the information you're learning and to inspire you in your mind mapping endeavors!

The course will also have regularly updated bonus material, such as case studies (stories of myself and others using mind mapping in real-world situations) and bonus lessons (based on new ways I've discovered uses for mind mapping).

What are the requirements?

  • I recommend a notebook that you dedicate to mind mapping, as most of my suggestions are for mind mapping *by hand.* There are also printable templates, if you prefer to start there (rather than drawing them).

What am I going to get from this course?

  • Tap into a greater sense of creativity and insight
  • Understand the structure and purpose of mind maps
  • Learn about (and see examples of) 7 of the common, practical uses of mind maps in every day life
  • Have an easy-to-remember, step-by-step process for creating mind maps in any occasion
  • Receive downloadable templates to print and use, or to build upon with your own unique preferences
  • Create your own mind maps!

Who is the target audience?

  • This mind mapping course is designed for people who are looking for new ways to organize their thoughts and ideas; for people looking to engage more of their minds in planning and creating; for people who have struggled with "lists;" and for anyone looking to overcome the stigma that "not everyone is artistic/creative."
  • This course is also for people who have an interest in mind mapping and need instruction to get started!

Section 1: What is "Creativity?"
  • Redefine what you think you know about "creativity" as we look at the meaning of the word from different perspectives across time and space
  • Identify the creative desires within you, what's been holding them back, and begin the process of bringing them to fruition
Mind maps are made of both images and words, and there is a reason this works! When you learn to think in images, you become more successful--not only with mind maps, but also with visualization!
  • Learn about "radiant thinking" and why it's the power that fuels the effectiveness of mind mapping
Section 2: Mind Mapping Basics

This is a basic overview to what a mind map actually IS and how to use it. Master the 3 Key Elements of a mind map and you're an instant expert.

Successful mind mapping begins with a seed idea--a core theme, from which the rest of your thoughts, ideas, and concepts radiate.

Subcategories are the manageable, "bite-sized" pieces of the seed idea. By branching into subcategories (and then further branching into sub-subcategories, etc.) next steps, missing pieces, and important elements of your ideas are captured and organized.

Branches are what tie everything together. Whether you use them to direct the flow of your thinking and planning, or you use them as categories in themselves, branches keep the connection between all the elements of your mind map.

Section 3: Practical, Useful Mind Mapping

My favorite way to utilize mind mapping is in creating personal vision for myself or the organizations / people I lead. Identifying and sticking with core developmental concepts is made easier with mind maps, and execution steps become clearer in the process. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping goals and vision.

Cut down on the lists with mind maps to plan for events. Whether fundraisers, product launches, or holidays with relatives, mind maps tie events together with ease and flow. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping events, parties, and similar group creations.

Similar to story boards, mind mapping helps in developing ideas that turn into artistic creations--particularly in writing. This is especially helpful for situations when you don't necessarily have the end in mind and instead have the central theme you want to illustrate through your words. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping stories, creative writing, and other literary outlets.

Similar to assimilation, mind mapping offers a dynamic approach to note taking and organization, because it applies radiant thinking. This is especially helpful if linear note taking and "lists" haven't worked for you. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for utilizing mind mapping in note taking, organizing information, studying, and research.

Assimilation is possibly the most important--and the most overlooked--aspect of learning, planning, and growth. Mind mapping helps to put the pieces together in ways that help you reason, adjust, and adapt so that your future endeavors bring even greater success! This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping in order to understand, assimilate, and learn from previous experiences.

Powerpoint slides with bullet points are outdated. Introducing radiant thinking through mind mapping to your audience offers a stimulating and attention-grabbing approach to presentations. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping both the planning and the execution of lectures and presentations.

Sometimes you just need to get ideas down on paper so you have something to work with. Like free writing or musical improvisation, mind mapping allows your ideas to flow, helping you tap the source of effortless output. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping insights, discoveries, creativity, and ideas.

Section 4: Resources

Templates - Line Format
Templates - Writable Branch Format
Mind Map Examples
Section 5: Case Studies

Follow my thought process in mind mapping an ideal job.

Follow my thought process in (re)designing a website.

Section 6: Bonus Lessons

Despite the wonders that technology and the internet provide us, sometimes a pen and paper go a long way in the planning stages. I saved hours of confusion and headaches by mind mapping websites, both in redesigning old sites and in creating them from scratch. This section offers instructions, suggestions, examples, and templates for mind mapping website design.
