  • You'll need a guitar with at least six strings attached to it, and a guitar pick. This course will teach you how to do the rest. The focus is on beginning guitar. It is not designed for intermediate, or advanced players who are already familiar with the basics of sight reading the treble clef, or how to play chords, and scales, while visualizing the alphabetical letters on the fretboard. If you need help in any of these areas, sign up for my class now, and lets get started!

Getting started
3 Lectures 09:11

It's important to hold the guitar correctly to be successful, and the pick is just as important. Don't skip this important step in beginning guitar.

How to hold the guitar and pick

You'll be using an electronic tuner of some sort for this exercise in tuning the guitar. For most of us that will mean downloading a free app on your smart phone or tablet. At the same time we'll be learning six notes, the open strings.

Preview 02:55

The warm up! Think of this as exercise for the guitar. We're going to stretch the fingers out and develop some basic coordination between the left and right hands using the chromatic scale.

Musical Symbols
3 Lectures 06:14

Let's get familiar with the notes on the treble clef staff.

The Musical Staff

We'll go over how many notes are in a measure of music, and what kind of notes are in each measure. Then we'll count them using a drum app or drum machine/metronome.

Time signature, note types, and rhythm

There are only twelve tones in the musical alphabet. You'll learn what they are, how to locate them on a piano or keyboard, and then how to play them on the guitar. You'll be able to find any note on the guitar after absorbing this information. The key to remembering the sequence, "Don't B.E. Sharp". The B note does not have a sharp and neither does the E note.

six notes as a scale, forwards and backwards, and then try to read a few tunes which

The below testimonials are not included here to brag or boast, but to illustrate how amazing it is to connect with one another through the arts, and to have the opportunity to use music to inspire, motivate, and bring a smile (or grimace depending on the song\,,/) to many people whom I've never met. It's those moments that drive my music forward to new territories.

"Kevins a super nice guy, this music is a vehicle to
show what a fast guitar player you are." George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob)

“You did an awesome job with this.” - Gary Hoey

“You can obviously play like a lunatic.” - Elliot Easton (The Cars)

"Excellent technique, great chops." - Reeves Gabrel (David Bowie)

“Kevins a great guitar player” - Dave Martone

“One More Chance (track #6) floored me,
totally love it. It reminds me of Joe Satriani. The flow is very melodic. Also
really enjoyed Takin' Back (track #8) and Wait For It (track #4). Lots of Paul Gilbert
influences in there I think amongst others. Nice production as well." - Nick Baldrian of Fireworks Magazine
