"It's a great way to work on your own. Keeps me more active then with most 'live teachers'. I am working on the accompanying left hand. It's highly satisfying, the instructions are very clear and comprehensive."
Hi there! This course is designed to teach anyone how to play the piano by ear as quickly and efficiently as possible.
What you will learn:
What this course is not about:
Here is what some past students thought about the course:
"Absolutely brilliant attitude and way of playing the piano. Kaiwen left me wanting more. I wish he had touched on Mutuno (salsa) and some Blues. Kaiwen, let us have some more!!!"
"This was an awesome course to take. I really learned a lot. The teacher was great with his instruction but also great in answering questions I had. If you want to learn to play my ear and sound more pro, then this is the course for you."
Just a little introduction to myself, where I come from and where this course will lead you!
Example songs as played in the introduction in order:
What are Keys and Chords? What do they look like on the piano? (For beginners)
What your left will do when playing a song on the piano. It's what makes your cover sound original and pretty!
The right hand is responsible for playing the main melody aka what is being sung.
We will be using "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic. You can find a link to that song in the resource section!
You only need to learn 3 to 4 short melodies for each song!
Either the easiest part, or the most difficult. Depends on which method you choose!
Try humming and/or singing along to your favourite songs!
Listen to the song again, keeping in mind what you just learned! It will sound much more familiar.
Get your left hand used to accompanying a song.
The right hand should be able to play the melody of a song as closely as possible to what is being sung.
How to do it the right way without messing it up.
Great you have made it this far! Now try a song of your own choice to play the way I just taught you until here
The right hand can help the left hand accompany the song!
Adds another level of richness to your song.
A chinese song. If you want to learn more about the "Chord Ladder" check out my other course on that topic! There is a key change in the song, where everything is one note higher. Try do figure that out!
My name is Kaiwen, and I am currently studying Engineering at RWTH Aachen University in Germany and have been teaching private piano lessons for 2 years.
Music among technology and automotive design, has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I started learning to play the piano at a very young age. Over the years I have developed a deep passion for this instrument and at some point decided to experiment with popular music.
I have been playing the piano for almost 17 years alltogether and arranging my own cover songs for almost 10 years now.
Having started out learning classical music I soon discovered that playing popular music can be more fun and is much quicker to learn by ear rather than using sheet music.
