Pilates has proved to be one of the most useful forms of exercise I've learned in the 40 years I've been actively interested in health and fitness. It's helped from a technique point of view with everything else I teach and seeing the difference it's made to my clients health and wellbeing has been particularly rewarding. Simply improving posture can improve or even cure many health issues including back problems, stress incontinence, preparation for/recovery after childbirth, arthritis and other joint problems, recovery and prevention of injuries, improved mental wellbeing and of course, a fit, strong, flexible body.
"I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They'd be happier." Joseph Pilates
Not only have I reaped the benefits of a personal practice, but I've had a tremendously rewarding career and I'd like to help you do the same by passing on the knowledge I've gained over the years.
This course is ideal
Students will learn
Downloadable resources include Health Screening Questionnaire and T&C/Waiver - extremely important for everyone's protection.
There are two multiple choice quizzes to test you on what you have learned.
The format for the course is mostly video with supporting pdf documents and has been broken down into easy to follow sections, giving you plenty of time to practice.
All you need to take this course is a laptop (or any mobile device), a mat and a desire to learn a discipline that will improve yours and your clients or future clients health and wellbeing.
A short video to explain what you will learn from the course and give you an idea of the best way to approach the material. Please read the Introduction pdf provided in this section. Please check each section and lecture for supporting resources: there is unique information in the video and pdfs which complement one another.
Even if you already know the Pilates repertoire it's important that you practice the Beginner level to help you with tier teaching. Once you become proficient at anything, it's hard to empathise with those who have little knowledge and easy to forget how difficult the basics can feel at first.
Get a feel for the progressions and notice the new exercises added at this level.
You should be extremely proficient at this level by the time you teach your first class! Check your form in a mirror or ask someone else to check you: remember that you will be demonstrating these exercises and therefore you need to be the perfect example.
Please take your time to learn all the information in this section. Learning to read faulty postures and being able to advise which exercises will help correct and alleviate problems such as back pain will set you apart.
Please always use the accompanying pdf with every video as there will be some content that doesn't necessarily make it onto both parts of each class.
I have over 30 years experience in the health & fitness industry. I started out as an aerobics instructor in London, taught all types of studio based classes in the growing number of health clubs and trained as a Pilates and yoga instructor towards the end of the 1990's. From then on, I built up a large portfolio of clients and ran private classes in the London area and in Abu Dhabi, UAE. When we moved to Dubai, I did further training in aerial yoga therapy, indoor cycling and Barre. I also wrote a Lifestyler column for Sport360, a Dubai based Sports Newspaper, for the 7 years I was in the Middle East. I am passionate about people's wellbeing and have dedicated my life to helping them improve their health through a healthy lifestyle.
