Section 1: Photographing an Individual Child

You will be introduced to 3 goals- to learn the technical aspect, psychological aspect and the business aspect of childrens photography.


Getting ready. What to do before the child arrives.


Manny takes you on location to photograph 2 year old MacKenzie. Short attention span means working fast.


Manny uses different backgrounds on location to help make great photos while getting terrific expressions from MacKenzie.


Make sure you choose location with optimal lighting. Use psychology to keep child's attention and get expressions.


Manny photographs Gianna in shady area at a park. Building a rapport with child is important.


Manny works with Gianna in the studio using flash photography and props.


Manny explains studio lighting setup before his session with Savanah where he gets a natural and pleasing holiday look.


Manny works with Savanah with various poses and creates full shots and close ups while keeping her focused throughout the studio session.


Manny changes the lighting and takes more photos of Savanah. We then review the best photos from the session.


This photo shoot with Lily starts off slowly. She is very shy. With time, Manny matches her energy and get some adorable expressions.


In part 2, Lily warms up and Manny gets some great photos. The key is patience.

Section 2: Photographing Groups of Children

Working with 2 young girls that are different ages has it's challenges. Manny shows you how to get them to cooperate and get wonderful expressions.


On location at the beach, Manny uses off camera flash to enhance the picture and psychology to get the 2 girls on the same energy level.


2 hyper brothers can be a handful. A toddler who wanders everywhere and his older brother make the session challenging. Manny works his magic and gets great photos with split second timing.


Manny gives a lecture on how to work with a group of children. In this case, 3 brothers and 1 sister are his subjects. Preparing in advance to dealing with a child that doesn't want to cooperate are all discussed.


On location, Manny shows you how to match the energy of 4 very high energy children. How to keep everyone focused and find the moment where it all comes together for a great shot.

Emanuele Pontoriero, Photography Instructor at Udemy

Winner of The Fassbender Award, Telly Award, Communicator Award, Emanuele "Manny" Pontoriero started his career as an apprentice.

After 3 years he became a full time professional photographer

Averaging about 55 weddings a year and traveling to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Manny has photographed over 2,000 weddings. Besides the hundreds of Christian and Jewish weddings he has photographed Italian, Greek, Croation, Cuban, Polish, Korean, Chinese, Iranian, Ethiopian and many other ethnic weddings.
