Welcome to "Turning your Passions into Paychecks"
I designed this course to help you articulate your career goals and best compete for internships or jobs that blend financial rewards with social impact and environmental stewardship. This course is designed to democratize access to top career advice. This means I want to make top career advice accessible to professionals who can't afford to hire a good career coach, and to students whose career center staff might not be well-versed in 21st Century impact internships and jobs available beyond on-campus recruiting programs.
This course is a blend of my career coaching experience at Brown University and at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, as well as of the content development with my co-founder, Dr. Mark Albion (Faculty Founder of Net Impact) through our B Corps, More Than Money Careers:
Throughout this course, you will be required to complete deliverables and post them on the discussion board so you can receive feedback and ideas on how you can make the process of turning your passions into paychecks faster and easier.
Please use the discussion area to post any questions or suggestions you might have!

Work/Life priorities change as we move through life. At the start of your career, you might have been most important to you might have been to work for a prestigious organization (e.g. Google, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Teach for America, Department of Defense). It might also be that your career goals are centered around making as much money as possible to pay off your student loans. You might also be thinking about choosing a path that will allow you to have a more flexible work schedule if you have children or relatives that might need more attention. All these priorities are likely to lead to tradeoffs, and this lecture will help you understand how your priorities might make you a better fit for different culture and sectors.
This lecture will help you clarify your passions and help you decide how you will invest in your passions, as well as which of your passions you will center your next career move on.
Please use the discussion area to post any questions or suggestions you might have!
Test your new found knowledge about your passion-driven career!
Now that you have clarified your triple fit, it is time to turn these priorities into a pitch that will make you memorable, as well as help you connect with the mentors and sponsors that best align with your goals.
How to identify contacts, as well as researching salary and employment trends based on your triple fit results.
Using LinkedIn to identify employers that match your values and goals.

How to mine twitter @handles and #hashtags to uncover internships and jobs before they become available on job boards.
It is easy to get tripped up about salary questions during a job or internship search. Whether an employer asks for your salary history during the application process, asks you about your salary expectations during your interview or on the way out after your interview, you need to be prepared to confidently dodge these curved ball throughout the hiring process.
From previous videos, you already know that 80% of job opportunities are never advertised, and are instead filled through networking and social media channels such as twitter and LinkedIn groups.
This lesson will help you re-assess your qualifications based on each job or internship posting you uncover.
This lesson will also help you use technology to read the hiring manager's mind and write tailored resumes that increase your chances to convert applications into interviews.
Learn about proactive and reactive job searching strategies you can leverage to convert your applications into interviews.
Being invited for an interview is great news, as it means that the employer has decided from your resume and cover letter that you meet the criteria for the position.
This lesson will teach you how to articulate your fit with the position, the organizational culture and the industry so you can convert more interviews into offers!
