Course Description

Awaken to Your Parent Power is first of a series of four playshops produced by Parenting to Potential designed to help parents cultivate child-rearing practices that foster a positive, empowering, and life enhancing experience for the whole family.

Awaken helps you take that first all-important step to realize and embrace your own powerful place in your child's world. Explore how to not overpower but to empower. Wise use of your power helps your child evolve into an authentic, creative, and courageous human being that genuinely enjoys his or her own life, and naturally moves to contribute to the wellbeing of the world.

This playshop is self-paced, yet designed to take about 2 weeks. It includes thought-provoking reading, inspiring music, engaging audio visuals, and creative and experiential exercises to help you to integrate this material.

The Parenting to Potential courses are designed to expand and strengthen your parenting skills without taking a lot of time away from your work and family life. This particular course, Awaken to Your Parent Power, will lay the groundwork for sound parenting, while providing a basis for the deeper learning available in the next three playshops.

Though parenting is an ongoing process, this playshop will jumpstart your ability to make the changes called for to help your child become who they really are, while doing the same for yourself.

What are the requirements?

  • All you need is at least one child that you are a primary caregiver of, a computer, a journal, and about 15 minutes a day of focused time to yourself for this process.

What am I going to get from this course?

  • Explore, understand, and integrate concepts that help create a positive and effective parenting experience for you and your child (based on western cultural values).
  • Discover ways to gain freedom from unconscious beliefs, habits and responses that inhibit your potential and your child's potential.
  • Apply these concepts and knowledge to your own experience as a child, and now as a parent.

Who is the target audience?

  • This course is designed for parents who want to strengthen and enhance their parenting skills without taking a lot of time out of their normal family and worklife.

This short welcome video is a chance to meet Gail and Sallie and hear their motivation for writing this course.

Section 1: The Significance of Agreement

Learn how agreement (vs. expectation or ordering) is the key to buy-in, motivation, accountability - and love.

There's a reason Improv is becoming such an important part of our western culture that prizes freedom as an ideal. Learn how to add to your child's life story by saying "Yes and" instead of stopping the scene with a block.

Learn to wake up to the unconscious overpowering programming people have passed down through the ages... In our culture and time, with all our resources, the way to change the world is through empowering people... The more we help our children practice using their power the more prepared they are to wield their power wisely when they're grown.

Section 2: Waking Up

Learn key terms and concepts we use throughout this course. By bringing them forward in your consciousness, you're "waking up" to their presence in your life. That's how they become tools for you to use instead of being left in the basement of your mind.

Explore your own personal power and how it may have been pinched back during your growth. Learn how to tune into your courage so you can bravely go where you want to go in your parenting.

Section 3: Parenting is Heroic and Creative

Wake up to how we are each creative and courageous every day by exploring the hero and the muse - mythologies that developed in ancient times to inspire us to new heights. Learn how to see these processes at play and to realize, when things look dark, that you are in a process that will lead somewhere. Being awake to this will help you remain calm, focused, and determined.

Section 4: Your Life is Calling

This lecture awakens us to shame and blame and how they derail potential, peace, and happiness.

Putting it all together, this lecture helps you consider what you want to reach for, and how to help your child by powerful example of awakened heart and mind.
