If you need help with Physics, you're in the right place. The Physics
Boot Camp team has decades of experience of helping students of all
abilities improve their GCSE Science Grade.
This course includes video lectures for every section, downloadable worksheets (with answers) for practice and a summary quiz for each section. Before you spend money on a private tutor, try our course - you can access the course when and where it suits you and the whole unit costs less than one session with a tutor!
This course covers the unit P4 - Radiation for Life, which is part of the OCR Gateway Additional Science or Physics B course. If this is not your exam board or course, then check out our instructor page for a suitable course for you.
In this unit you will learn about why some materials are radioactive, the
properties of the three different types of radiation, their uses and
effects. You will also learn how circuits work, how static electricity occurs
and the use of electricity in the home.
We use our expertise from helping thousands of students to highlight the key areas that you need for your exam, along with helping you avoid the mistakes that everyone else makes!
Background music: Nicolai Heidlas - Sunny Afternoon, Hawaiin Winter, Summertime
Understanding the movement of electrons is essential for getting to grips with electricity and that's what you'll learn about here. Static electricity also includes the best ever physics demonstration so make sure you check out the van der graaf generator videos in the resource section
Static electricity isn't just for keeping physics students (and teachers) entertained in the laboratory - it has a lot of real world applications and we'll learn about three of those here.
Circuits don't work by magic but often students think of them in that mysterious way! This session will help you understand what is actually happening in the wires in a circuit.
Why does electricity move around the circuit in the first place? Thissession will help you answer that and apply your knowledge to analyse circuits.
The relationship between voltage, current and resistance is essential to understand what is happening in circuits. We've done current and voltage in the last two sessions... so guess what this one is about!
You put a plug in a socket and, as if by magic, electrical devices work in your home. This session will help you learn about how the 'magic' happens!
Recap the key features of transverse and longitudinal waves in this session
Learn what ultrasound is and how it is used in this session.
Radioactive decay equations cause problems whenever they appear on exam papers and you'll learn how to master them in this session.
It's important to be able to describe the differences between the three types of nuclear radiation and that's what you'll learn in this session.
We are exposed to radiation all the time and this session will look at where that comes from.
Half-life questions are an examiner favourite and there's nothing to them... honest!
Radioactive materials are used in all sorts of places and we'll learn about the main ones here
Nuclear fission is splitting an atom. Learn how to describe the process in this session.
The last thing we want is a nuclear reaction going out of control! Learn how we can avoid that in this session
Michael has been teaching GCSE science for 13 years, specialising in Physics. Over that time, he has built up extensive knowledge of the GCSE curriculum, including marking for exam boards as well as helping thousands of students tackle their exams. Michael is one of the directors of Physics Boot Camp.
