By the end of this course, you will have the foundational knowledge to decide on the best social media platforms for you and how best to use them in a timely way. You'll learn to use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, GooglePlus, and Pinterest. Then you will also learn to curate and share content using Paperli. Finally, you will connect your social media accounts using Hootsuite so that you can easily and quickly build relationships online. You will also become more comfortable using Youtube.

Most of the videos are a bit longer, some up to 30 minutes. Many of them were originally presented as live webinars. As such, the audio quality is a bit tinny, but totally understandable. Watch the lectures one by one, or choose the ones that you need help with first. If you aren't sure where to spend your time on social media, or you want a basic understanding of each of the possible options, this course is for you. The three short videos are a little harder to hear.

Facebook is probably one of the most popular social media networks and allows you to interact with friends and family and share photos, all from one location. Facebook Pages are used for businesses and brands and can access the large following that Facebook has.

Since social media changes constantly these are some of my thoughts on how I use my time: Facebook can really be a time suck, so I try to watch how long I'm there and do specific tasks so I don't get distracted. Then if I have free time, I interact with people. I have tried paying to have an event promoted on Facebook, but it didn't do very well. It only cost me $5, and did bring some extra people to my Facebook page, but no one registered for the event as a result, so I won't try that again. One of the things that seems most successful on Facebook is to start a group and regularly add tips and interact with the members. As with all social media platforms, it takes time to get to know people and build relationships before you begin to see results. And rather than selling, indirectly talk about what you're doing. For instance, I could say "one of my students was so happy when she learned to send out her first email newsletter." That tells people I do training about email newsletters, without actually coming out and saying 'hire me'.

You design the columns you need and can make it as simple or as complicated as you choose. If you have more than one website, you still only need one Hootsuite account, but if you want more than five social media platforms on it, you'll need their paid version.

Update: Facebook no longer allows you to add your Newsfeed to Hootsuite for a personal Facebook profile. You can only add a Facebook stream that shows the posts you yourself have added to your personal Facebook account, along with any comments for those posts.
