Description

Maya 2016 Model and Render Fruit with Arnold and Mentalray

Modelling and rendering realistic FRUIT in Maya with Arnold and Mentalray

Learn how to model realistic fruit as shown in the image and render out with both Arnold and Mentalray!
During this course I will show you the step by step process to create an amazingly detailed Fruit composition, we will first model and texture plus apply a bump map to our Fruit and finally model a simple glass bowl and set, we will set up lighting and render out using both Mentalray and Arnold!

The Process

  • Set up the project
  • Model our fruit
  • Create UVs and texture our fruit
  • Create a bump map for extra detail
  • Create our glass bowl
  • Set up our scene and light it
  • The Render

Lets render this in Mentalray

  • I will also show you how to access legacy pass options and render with these passes
  • I will now show you how to composite the passes in Photoshop
  • Next we will repeat the process using the Arnold render engine
  • Again I will show you how to output render passes from Arnold
  • And we will composite in Photoshop
  • Extras

In order to get the essential skills drilled into your memory we will also set up extra scenes where I think it is necessary giving your extra info and advice!

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Scene set up our project

First thing we need to do before modelling is to set up our Maya project.

Preview 02:57

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Creating the base mesh for the strawberry

We will use a sphere for our base mesh of our strawberry.

Preview 07:07

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Creating a section

To create our strawberry we are going to concentrate on a section of the base sphere, later we will rotate and duplicate the section to form the whole fruit.

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold intro

This is an amendment to the course in Arnold rendering I just wanted to make sure it is crystal clear! specially the bump mapping.

02:02

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold assigning Materials

We need to make sure all the materials are the AIStandard Arnold material specially as the bump map will not show in the render otherwise, please watch the entire section on the Arnold rendering before beginning anything it will help you to understand the process.

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold increasing quality

I know comparing to Mentalray it might seem quite complicated to set up an Arnold render however in effect it is easier, as when you start to get into final gather, GI and raytracing mentalray can get a lot more complex Arnold works differently and the setting are quite intuitive.

07:34

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold new demo scene

I want this part to be crystal clear so I am setting up a demo scene so you can see how the render passes work.

17:54

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold Bump Maps

We need to apply the AIStandard Arnold Material to the objects so we can show the bump maps easily, in fact its good to point out even for Mentalray you should really use the Mentalray materials as they are designed for Mmentalray and Arnold, so get in the habit now!

09:14

Maya 2016 Modelling and Rendering - Rendering in Arnold Demo Scene Passes

Lets show you how to render passes for this demo scene then you can apply the knowledge for the actual scene.
