The Ultimate Udemy Course Creation Blue-Print
RE: “How I Quadrupled Sales Via the Udemy Black Friday 2015 Launch Process.”
Dear soon to be Udemy Instructor, have we got a package for you!
On October 5th a message flashed across the top of my browser announcing the #BlackFriday2015 Course Launch Challenge. Daniel Hall, J.D. had recently been extremely excited about a talk on dividend investing. I normally made that a 1 lecture topic of my first stock investing course.
When I looked at the 5 challenges for the competition I freaked out. Some required a level of production quality above my skillset.
So I morphed out the dividend idea into a new Udemy offering co-authored with international thought leader Daniel Hall, J.D.
We did not win one of the coveted 10 spots on the Udemy Facebook page. But we did get into the drawing and were one of many courses tweeted.
This rocketed my sales in November by 4 fold.
You are probably sitting now where I was in May of 2015. My research budget had been pulled at the University.
I needed more cash to pay for data and the cost of my research assistants.
I had no idea what to do. I reached out to Daniel Hall because he has this uncanny 6th sense for money making opportunities nobody else sees. He recommended I start publishing my Amazon bestselling books and courses on investing through Udemy.
I am planning a 5-day walk on the English Way to Santiago de Campostela deep in the heart of Galicia. My earnings in November have already paid for the trip for both Marisol and I.
An MBA Level Training on Udemy Course Creation!
I am also the coordinator of the University of Puerto Rico MBA Student Act 20 and Act 22 Guide as an associate professor of finance of the AACSB Accredited Graduate School of Business. This program helps me train my students to run the official guide to tax incentives and relocation in Puerto Rico.
Here is what my students have written regarding my instruction,
“What I found most beneficial about the course was the diversity of topics each week.” -C.M. May 18, 2015
“I want to thank the Professor for assisting me in providing effective guidance in all my assignments and help me gain knowledge in this subject.” -T.S. May 19, 2015
“This course has been very beneficial in many respects.” -S.M. May 19, 2015.

Daniel Hall pioneered entry into Udemy before Dr. Brown. He has full mastery over the Udemy course creation process.
Daniel is also and international expert in making money online.
This course lays out not just the nuts and bolts of maximizing your odds of creating a family sustaining business teaching here in Udemy. But your online income endeavors need not stop here.
Daniel can lead you in other money making directions you never thought possible.
For instance, your Udemy campus can tie into Kindle paper books, podcasts, social media and much more. Attorney Hall has the chops to show you what makes money online.
This course is an excellent starting point to master the basics of profitable online course creation within a planned process that is easy to replicate.
Count on Daniel Hall to continue to lead you through the hoops of profitable course creation. Don’t forget that there are a number of additional steps you can take to expand your monthly family household income just as Daniel does for his own cherished family.
This course introduces you to The Udemy One Week Wonder Course. This is based on the concept of test drilling in oil field exploration. There are two formats.
The Pre-established Course External to Udemy
Here you take a look at your preexisting courses where you already have PowerPoint slides and/ or MS Word documents. Your first task is to look at each course and ask yourself, “What is the #1 most important concept I myself would willingly pay $20 to learn?”
You then take the slides related to that core concept and you chunk it out into two core content sessions with ten lectures that are two and a half minutes in length each and an intro and a bonus lecture. That is four sections with at least 14 lectures.
The entire process forces compliance with the stringent standards laid out in the Udemy #BlackFriday2015 Course Launch Challenge.
By (1) identifying the most valuable kernels of data in your preexisting course offering menu and (2) chunking it down into fast micro lectures it is (3) possible to create and publish an entire Udemy course in one week with no more than 10 hours of time.
Once the course is published you must to send out an educational announcements from time to time and tend to discussion posts or personal messages received from students. Pumping out 10 to 50 one week wonders over a quarter to a year allows you to receive vital data on 10 to 50 digital knowledge micro-niches.
The New Concept Course
With a new concept the MS Word documents and Powerpoints slides have to be created from scratch. These courses take double the time to publish on Udemy as compared to a pre-existing external course already in your offering menu.
The new concept course should not be developed until all of your pre-existing ideas are developed.
Scott takes you by the and walks you through each component of the #BlackFriday Udemy Course Launch Challenge. This forces you to conform with extremely stringent standards.
The challenge incorporated five core challenges. Two of the tasks were required.
The “Structured Intro” task forces you to develop an introduction to your course that is as inspiring as possible. This was not Scott’s strong suite at the time.
It is now.
After that he had to create “Structured Activities.” This was fulfilled via multiple choice quizzes. But more complicated tasks can be used as well as contests within your course.
Then three bonus tasks got us into the drawing. These were “Course Goals” that were limited to just three. You will notice how this cleans up your summaries.
The next was a “Prepared Delivery” that required the publication of a video with no filler words. This in itself is a class on proper diction when speaking into a microphone.
The third and final challenge was the creation of a video displaying an agreeable “Tone of Voice.”
Dr. Brown explains the importance of using the full number of words in each of the component forms of the course. This is as follows.
It is vital that these are all well written with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling and are keyword rich. The simplest form of search engine optimization (SEO) comes from maximizing the amount of text that you associate with each Udemy course component.
The spiders that the search engines send out to collect data on pages cannot read videos. These internet robots rely on written text to infer video and audio content.
This is somewhat like the Borg mind on the old Star Trek series. Collective conscious has limitations when it comes to SEO.
You have to help the search engines by feeding them keyword rich information regarding your course.
Use this MS Word document as a guide to your own process for creating Udemy courses. This is the exact tool we personally use to create courses on Udemy.
If you will fill it out completely you will notice that your course will be approved faster and with more compliments from Udemy administration.
The introduction video is important because it sets the tone for your course. This is the first communication your student receives in the new student-instructor relationship.
Do not confuse this video with the introduction video.
The introduction video of for teaching. The promo video is for selling.
Don’t place a promo video in the spot for the intro video.
I try to make sure that I tell the student what benefit they will be enjoying after studying the course. This may be understanding the stock market better or in the case of this course the #BlackFriday2015 and #BlackFriday2016 Course Launch Challenge process.
Then I explain to them the different ways to contact me depending on whether or not they want privacy. Most importantly I let them know that I respond to them in any way the reach out to me in no more than 24 hours on regular work-days or up to 72 hours on long holidays or special events such.
A special event would include the 5 day walk on the English Way to Santiago de Campostela I hope to complete in June.
These questions double check your knowledge of the #BlackFriday205 Challenge.
Dr. Brown walks you through the process of posting a free review coupon on Udemy Studio. You must already be a member of Facebook to do this.
Then you must ask to join the Udemy Studio Facebook page.
There are over 400,000 instructors enrolled in this page. This gives you access to vital feedback for quality control.
I created the course on Act 20 and 22 as a helpful guide to the public that garners exposure for our students. The intent is to help bring jobs to the island and get jobs for our students.
I submitted the course and everything was approved except they requested that the word course in the title be changed to guide.
I made the necessary change and resubmitted the course. At that point I have to wait for the Udemy team to finalize.
The response came back from Earl. The Udemy design team is so backed up with new courses that they do not have the image created for the course.
This is important because the image is the overlay for the promotional video.
Earl asked if I wanted to put in a placeholder. I resubmitted the course but did not answer Earl.
The next day the image was not changed. So I sent a message through the text video section.
I learned that the test video section is our direct messaging to the Udemy team when we are taking a course through approval.
Earl put in a placeholder that was very appropriate but very ugly. I left it in place and sent links out to my current students to get the word out.
A few trickled in.
We may do a paid press release. Or we may build out the SEO on the course with the students next semester.
This is the first time either of us have launched a free course. What I have learned is that the public is not as interested in a free course as they are in a paid course that is given away for free.
Unfortunately, this course is a public service guide. The alternative marketing route is not available.
The course now has over 100 students and rising. But it is not holding on the search engines.
We will have to more work this semester as a student team.
In conversation with Daniel Hall I mentioned the graphic. He swapped it out.
It looks much better. It is a thumbs up hand in the colors of the Puerto Rican Flag.
Nicolas Darvas was a world class dancer who achieved fame at the level of today’s Cirque du Soleil. He and his sister were on the cover of Time Magazine.
Unbeknownst to all he was an amazing stock investor. His techniques have been supported in empirical finance today.
This course takes students through his book in a way that makes the concepts meaningful and actionable. This course lecture shows you the final check and actual moment of excitement when I press the “Submit for review button.”
Use the attached PDF to see how I structured a recent paid Udemy course. Notice how I try to use the full characters.
This course performed very well. It enrolled over a thousand students in the first day.

My Curriculum Vitae:
Investment Writing and Speaking:
I am an internationalspeaker oninvestments. In 2010 I gave a series of lectures onboard Brilliance of the Seas as a guest speaker on their Mediterranean cruise. Financial topics are normally forbidden for cruise speakers. But with me they make an exception because of my financial pedigree.
On day 6 the topic I discussed was “Free and Clear: Secrets of Safely Investing in Real Estate!“ The day 7 topic was “Investment Style and Category: How the Stock Market Really Works!” Then on day 8 I spoke about “The 20% Solution: How to Survive and Thrive Financially in any Market!” The final talk on day 11 was “Value Investing for Dummies: When Dumb Money is Smart!”
Gina Verteouris is the Cruise Programs Administrator of the Brilliance of the Seas of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Regarding my on-board teachings she writes on June 19th, “You have really gone above and beyond expectations with your lectures and we have received many positive comments from our Guests.”
I sponsored and organized an investing conference at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 2011 under my Wallet Doctor brand. This intimate conference was attended by 14 paying attendees.
As such many strides were made in financial education that week. For instance I met a woman who is a retired engineer from the Reno, Nevada area.
She made a fortune on deep in the money calls during the bull markets of the 90s.
This humble and retired engineer inspired me to look more seriously at deep in the money calls with far expiration. She also gave me an important clue regarding trading volume.
Her call option and volume insights have been confirmed in the Journal of Finance.
In 2012 I gave a workshop at the FreedomFest Global Financial Summit on stock investing at the Atlantis Bahamas Resort. I was also a panelist on a discussion of capital markets.
My course “How to Build a Million Dollar Portfolio from Scratch" at the Oxford Club is an international bestseller. In 2014 I co-authored “Tax Advantaged Wealth” with leading IRS expert Jack Cohen, CPA. This was the crown jewel of the Oxford Club Wealth Survival Summit.
I have been a regular speaker at the Investment U Conferences.
In 2012 I gave a workshop entitled “How to Increase Oxford Club Newsletter Returns by 10 Fold!” The conference was held at the Grand Del Mar Resort in San Diego, California. This resort destination is rated #1 on TripAdvisor.
In 2013 I spoke at the Oxford Club’s Investment U Conference in San Diego California. The talk was entitled “The Best Buy Signal in 103 Years!” Later in the summer I spoke at the Oxford Club Private Wealth Conference at the Ojai Valley Inn.
This was at the same time that Jimmy Kimmel married Molly McNearney in the posh California celebrity resort. It was fun to watch some of the celebrities who lingered.
I also operate a live weekly investment mentorship subscription service under the Bullet-Proof brand every Monday night by GoToWebinar.
I am an associate professor of finance of the AACSB Accredited Graduate School of Business at the University of Puerto Rico. My research appears in some of the most prestigious academic journals in the field of investments including the Journal of Financial Research and Financial Management. This work is highly regarded on both Main Street and Wall Street. My research on investment newsletter returns was considered so important to investors that it was featured in the CFA Digest.
The Certified Financial Analyst (CFA)is the most prestigious practitioner credential in investments on Wall Street.
Prestigious finance professor Bill Christie of the Owen School of Business of Vanderbilt University and then editor of Financial Management felt that our study was valuable to financial society. We showed that the average investment newsletter is not worth the cost of subscription.
