Unit 3 Lesson 2: Digging into the words
We often say in our Grace Aware study method that "you can’t know what it means until you first know what it says." In this lesson we take a look at a familiar section of Scripture to show how important word study is, and how going beyond the English translation can open your eyes to a deeper understand of a passage.
In-Depth look at: "Peter, do you love me?"
Duration - 6m 55s
Unit 3 Lesson 3: Word usage in other verses
It's often very useful when you're doing a word study to see how that word is used elsewhere (especially by the same author, since people typically have consistent usage of words and phrases).
Example: Searching for "Save*"
Search results in other versions
Other books
Search results, continued at bottom of Search Results page
How to find "First use"
Parse button special usage in Hebrew - stem
Pronunciation
Example: Look up "Salvation" for a surprise that should be no surprise
Duration - 7m 55s
Unit 3 Lesson 4: Using the Parse command
Verbs are action words, and more than any other form of speech they impact the meaning of a passage. In this lesson we show how to use this powerful feature to understand the three basic attributes of a verb: Tense, Voice and Mood.
Tour of the Greek Verb Quick Reference guide
Tense (past, present, future, perfect, imperfect)
Voice (active, passive)
Mood (imperative, subjunctive)
Get your Free Greek Verb Tense Quick Reference guide, and read more about Greek verb tenses in this related post.
Duration - 7m 59s
BLB added an important new feature to the interlinear view in March 2019 called, "Greek Inflections." This new feature gives us more insight into the exact Greek word used in any New Testament passage, as well as the Septuagint (the Old Testament translated into Greek).
Unit 4 Lesson 1: Looking Up Names
Ever since a word study on the word "cursed" sent us on a strange journey, the Grace Aware study method has held in high regard the practice of looking up common names of people and places. In this lesson you'll see how a simple word study took us to an unexpected place with a surprise ending.
Genesis 3:14 So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, You [are] cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.
Look up the meaning of "Peter" and "John" - as disciples they had two different approaches to Jesus and their names reflect that.
Duration - 6m 28s
Unit 4 Lesson 2: The Importance of the Greek "Perfect Tense"
Greek verbs go beyond just "past, present and future." In this lesson we'll show three examples of how the "perfect tense" gives special clarity and insight into the author's intended meaning of a passage.
1John 2:12
John 19:30
Heb 10:1-2
Duration - 5m 13s
Unit 4 Lesson 3: Context across books of the Bible
Most Bible study strategies focus on the immediate context. The Grace Aware study method goes much further. In this example you'll see beyond "local contact" to a greater context that spans books of the Bible.
Example: “No where to lay His head:" Mt 8:20, John 19:30
Duration - 3m 17s
Unit 4 Lesson 4: Double-Negatives in Greek
In English a double-negative reverses the meaning, but in Greek double-negatives work together to strengthen the negative. In this example you'll explore a double-negative:
John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

We offer this independent training to help people make the best use of the free tools available. By combining our Bible study method with exceptional tools like BlueLetterBible and Evernote we create "thought-leaders" in Christianity who will become "seekers" and be transformed by the renewing of their minds. Our goal is to produce believers who know the reason for the hope that lies within them, and who can articulate it because they understand what they believe and why they believe it.
