The material in this course is what I use with my coaching clients so if you are curious about learning to coach yourself from observing your thoughts, ideas and body while exploring emotions, this course is for you!

I strongly believe in 3 key ideas: #1) Education - learn about what matters to you; #2) Coaching - practice and embody that learning; and #3) Leadership - show up "fully and in presence" with others.

Every section in this course is connected and invites you to embody the learning. Each section has some “Action Steps” or “Activity” to help you notice what shows up for you as you to interpret and get to the story of the emotions that you experience.

The more you can practice and apply what you learn in the sections determines the results you'll get.

Section #1 – “Welcome To The Course” – Quickly get started in this section with this short introduction to “Emotional Intelligence And Emotional Mastery” and the two foundational models of the O-A-R and the B-E-L. You are the unique observer of your life. And the unique observer you are has a Body, experiences Emotions and interprets those emotions in Language. There is also an invitation to join the private Facebook group called, “Life Coaching And Vedic Counseling”.

Section #2 – “Before You Begin - A Brief Introduction To Emotions” – Emotions have been studied for as long as humans have been alive. It wasn’t until about 1649 and Descartes’, “Les Passions des l’Ame” that emotions have been reduced and classified into “basic” emotions. Other psychological studies include Dr. Paul Ekman’s “6 Basic Emotions” and Dr. Robert Plutchik’s “Wheel Of Emotions.” Learn to distinguish between what it means to “have emotions” versus “being emotional.” This skill is crucial for developing your emotional intelligence.

Section #3 – “Getting To Know Yourself - Part 1 - Your Emotional Inheritances” – The bulk of the worksheets and self-reflection exercises are in this section. This is where you are invited to spend as much time as possible to understand what makes up that “framework of belief” that your unique observer operates under. This framework was built throughout your life from ALL of the life experiences you had. What were those? Who were those individuals responsible? The more clearly you can articulate this, the greater your results.

Section #4 – “Getting To Know Yourself - Part 2 - Moods And Their Influence” – What is the difference between “moods” and “emotions”? Well, it’s mostly a matter of time! Emotions are triggered by events; they are mostly immediate. Moods, on the other hand, are emotions that persist for longer periods of time from hours to decades! What are the moods that you bring with you? Do you know the 4 basic moods? Learn to move from the moods of Resentment and Resignation to something more productive in your life.

Section #5 – "Bust A Move - Learning To Give Yourself A Break From Mental “Chatter”" – No matter if we keep our mouths shut or open, we are ALWAYS in conversation! We either have a chattering internal loop or we are interacting with others! STOP this noise by moving your body. Here you will learn about the 5 body dispositions and how they cause us to experience certain emotions. Once you learn to move your body in an appropriate way to get satisfactory results, then you have a powerful tool to work with your emotions. The activities in this section invite you to practise moving your body into these dispositions.

Section #6 – "Declarations And How To Bring Joy And Satisfaction Into Your Life" – Declarations are at the heart of creating a life of meaning, value and satisfaction. Declarations are a speech act and have certain properties that allow you to use the generative power of language to create that “hoped for future” in your life.

Section #7 – “Approaching Resentment & Resignation With Lightness And Curiosity” – The moods of Resentment and Resignation can be particularly “heavy.” This section is about introducing the emotions of lightness and curiosity to work with these moods. Each of lightness and curiosity allow you to work with these moods and look at them from different perspectives. Activities in this section invite you to visualise and imagine just what it would be like for you to be in “lightness” and “curiosity.”

Section #8 – “Looking Ahead To Create A Satisfactory And Joyous “Hoped For” Future” – Creating that “hoped for” future is at the heart of the coaching relationship. Just what is it that you want to create in your life? Which areas of family, friends, career, community and more do you want that “hoped for” future?

Section #9 – “Life Is Meant To Be Lived Joyously… Stepping Lightly And In Joy” – We wrap up this course with the invitation to consider that life is meant to be lived joyously. The action steps are summarised here which invite you to #1 notice and #2 keep practising the skill of noticing. In 1649 René Descartes wrote “Les Passions de l’Ame” which means “Passions Of The Soul.” He named only six basic “passions” which are today’s emotions. From that work, we have psychologists such as Dr. Paul Ekman and Dr. Robert Plutchik who worked to classify emotions into “basic” emotions and trying to predict human behaviour. They came up with 6-16 “basic” emotions. I also introduce one of the concepts of the Vedic framework which says that the human body is the vehicle for the divine observer you are. It is that human body that experience emotions; you, the observer, merely interprets it.

In my experience, it appears that we don’t talk about emotions a lot because we have opinions, judgements and other moralistic interpretations about them. We confuse the experience of emotions with the interpretation around the resultant actions. “Being emotional” is adding an interpretation to the natural experience of “having emotions.” I invite you to approach emotions from a linguistic perspective.

Section 4: Getting To Know Yourself - Part 2 - Moods And Their Influence

Moods are a series of events that have “globbed” together over time, persistently to create a mood. These moods stay with us for long periods of time from a few hours to decades. Due to their persistence, they are relegated to the background of our awareness.

There are as many moods as there are emotions. However, these four basic moods are persistent through much of our interactions. The 4 basic moods are: resentment, resignation, acceptance and ambition. These basic moods form the first layer of “background emotions” that serve to influence our framework of belief that our unique observer operates under.

When we learn to accept the facticity of events, situations, interactions in the past or present, then we enter into the mood of acceptance. Once again, this is not a “positive” or “negative” emotion/mood! All it has is an energy that causes us to act from a different range of possibilities. In what areas of life do you bring the mood of acceptance?

The mood of ambition has an energy that can be described as “go-getting” or “engaged” or “energized.” When used in its proper capacity and effort, it can yield positive results. But when used to excess can create exhaustion. Which situations, events and conversations have you engaged in the mood of ambition? How has that served you?

We have conversations ALL the time; the most persistent conversations are the ones that we have with ourselves. The invitation is to learn to notice all the noise in your head and stop the “parrots”, the “loros” from yammering on too much. How do you do it? Just “bust a move!”

For those results that you wish to make more meaningful and have more value in your life, learn to make slight changes that interrupt existing patterns.

Section 6: Declarations And How To Bring Joy And Satisfaction Into Your Life

Joy and satisfaction are emotions and as such have “a story” and are interpreted by the unique observer you are. What actions do you take when you are in joy? What actions become possible when satisfaction enters your life?

Linguistically, declarations do one of four things. Declarations begin, resolve, end or evaluate aspects of life.

The emotion of joy and satisfaction bring about certain possibilities of action. What are they for you? When actions are taken in joy and satisfaction, the result can lead to choices that lead to healthier living, non destructive habits and activities that nurture and nourish.

The invitation is to kick back, put your feet up and relax into this visualisation exercise. Use the power of your visual memory and make associations of YOUR interpretations of joy and satisfaction. What do they mean to you? What activities are “joyous” for you? Use your imagination and paint a landscape that engages ALL of your senses: visual, taste, touch, smell, sound.

Section 7: Approaching Resentment & Resignation With Lightness And Curiosity

Lightness and curiosity are emotions. What does lightness look like for you? What about curiosity? What imagery can you associate with these emotions?

Your life is the result of ALL of your actions that you took, either by design or not. Your actions (or lack thereof) determine the results and outcomes of all the situations, events and conversations that you interact with. What can you practise? What new actions can you take? How will you deal with resistance?

Change is a given and it is an expected and natural part of interacting with the world around you. But it sucks because it is hard. What were the changes in your life? How was that a resistance or hurdle in your life? What ideas, thoughts, individuals are providing resistance in your life? Notice resistance then slowly introduce changes.

As you travel with your emotional baggage and interact with others, so too do others travel with theirs. Who has the stronger influence? How do you know? My Story

Like you, I have many interests and hobbies :) After graduating with a B.Sc. in Computer Science, I worked in IT for two years before moving to Japan. There, I studied Japanese business culture and developed ways to blend Japanese business and corporate practices with the Western corporate environment.

After returning, I continued to hone my IT skills and integrate my learning, communication, teaching and coaching skills:

❖ Started a photography business

❖ Trained in Franklin Covey’s leadership skills

❖ Took coach training from Newfield Network
