Curriculum

Section 1: Course Introduction: Watch This First To Understand What You Get From The Course
01:57

Welcome to my digital marketing course on how to reach 1,000,000 people. I hope you reach more than that. This is one of my best marketing courses, and I am glad that you joined. Warm welcome, and let's get started.

04:24

Here is a small checklist to get you started with this digital marketing course. It is part of the class introduction to help you be a more proactive student instead of just passively watching.

05:42

I wanted to add a little preview of what's to come in this digital marketing course, and what you will be able to accomplish soon. This is an example of how I get a lot of traffic to a web page or a video, or any other piece of content using SEO and social media. There will be many more such examples throughout this course. But this is just something for you to look at and think about while we go through the rest of the course so that you have a chance to think about all the strategies noted here.

Section 2: SEO (search engine optimization) beginner to advanced to very savvy!
02:37

In this section of our digital marketing course, I will focus on SEO. SEO (search engine optimization) is one of the most common, effective and at the same time competitive and difficult marketing strategies today. It is an amazing combination that draws millions of people to compete for that coveted Google search traffic. In this part of the course, you will learn how to capture search traffic from Google search and a number of other large search engines. For my own business, SEO has played a tremendous role, and I would not be here without it. In this part of the course you will learn the smart SEO strategies I use to draw thousands of people each day from everywhere on the web.

01:16

SEO (search engine optimization) is a topic to which it is hard to give an introduction because SEO has grown to be many different things to many different people. And really, where do you start to explain SEO? At the heart of it, of course, the practice of SEO is your practice as a marketer to position your website or product pages to get as much search traffic as possible. Many people associate SEO with Google search because Google is the biggest player in search. But the truth is that people search for things everywhere on the web. For example, people search mobile app stores for apps, they search Amazon, eBay or Etsy for products, they search Yelp for local businesses, and they search iTunes for music and podcasts. All that is SEO, and in this part of the course you will learn how to capture all of that traffic.

03:08

Want to start doing SEO? Not so fast. I recently added these common SEO mistakes to this digital marketing course. Please watch this tutorial with the common mistakes so that you do not make these mistakes, and so that your SEO will go much more smoothly.

02:14

Want to get your website to rank highly in Google search? Watch this lecture, and see for yourself what the top SEO ranking factors are. As a part of improving this digital marketing course I actually re-filmed this lecture to make it much shorter for you, and much more to the point. I hope you appreciate it.

01:58

In this part of the digital marketing class I discuss how SEO is unique and different for new websites. So if your site is new, Google might make it extra difficult for it to rank well in search, and may put the new website through additional tests and hoops before it can rank better. This may be difficult for your business because if the marketing plan for your business has a strategy to get SEO traffic quickly, it might ruin those plans.

Section 3: SEO Keyword Research
01:29

Keyword research is a very important part of SEO. Possibly, it is the most important part of SEO because if you choose the wrong keywords or too few keywords, you will either not rank or rank for the wrong keywords, which is going to bring you people who are not interested in your products or business. So this part of our digital marketing class, I begin to show and explain to you how to do correct keyword research for SEO.

07:17

In this tutorial of our digital marketing course, I show you how to do keyword research for SEO using the Google Keyword Planner Tool. The Google Keyword Planning tool is part of Google AdWords, which is the paid Google promotion, but you don't have to pay to use the Google Keyword Planner. That tool is free, and many things we will do in this digital marketing course moving forward require at least some keyword research that you can do using this tool. So this is important.

03:56

In this part of the class I show you how I do advanced keyword targeting after I have done SEO keyword research witht he Google Keyword Planner.

01:26

Here is another exercise you should try. I have been working on adding more practical exercises into this digital marketing course for you to work on so that you are a more active participant in the class. I hope you like the practical exercises.

06:44

The distinction between short tail keywords for SEO and long tail keywords is immensely important, and in this part of the course I explain exactly how to target both, the short tail SEO keywords and the long tail SEO keywords at the same time so that your product or page can rank for both. Usually, when you first create a page or a product listing, it doesn't rank too well. It is especially difficult to rank for competitive short tail keywords. So a good strategy is usually to try to rank for a few different long tail keywords first, and then try to get the traffic from those to create enough positive signals for Google to start ranking your website or product listing higher in search results for the short tail keywords you are targeting and hoping to rank for.

02:14

If you are excited about your keyword research for SEO, I am glad because it is extremely important in your online and digital marketing success. But you can go a little bit wrong with it, if you over-do it with the SEO keywords which will result in keyword stuffing. You don't want to do keyword stuffing because it might get you penalized by Google. So in this lecture of our digital marketing course I show you an SEO tool that you can use to check your keyword density on any page to make sure that you didn't go overboard.

Section 4: On-page SEO
00:59

We have progressed in our digital marketing course form keyword research to how to do on-page SEO by applying the keywords we discovered in the previous section of the course, and not adding it throughout our pages.

This is extremely important because any time you do SEO on your website or on YouTube or on Amazon or Etsy for products, or on any other websites, these keyword research and on-page SEO principles will come up again. You can use what you learn in this part of this digital marketing course almost everywhere else online.

03:43

In this part of the digital marketing class I explain the concept of a cornerstone page for SEO. Cornerstone SEO pages are useful when you are trying to rank for some very competitive keyword that is extremely difficult to rank for. In that case, you must have your page do a lot of the SEO marketing for you. That means making sure that people stay on the page a long time, and engage with it. This will help Google collect positive signals about your page. In order to do that, you would usually have to create a long form page that is maybe over 1,000 words of quality content (not just filler content). You would also add rich media to this content like photos, videos, and maybe embed the audio from the video as a podcast and maybe embed some powerpoint slides as well. All this together would make for a definitive and authoritative page on the subject matter, and while this by itself would not guarantee that your page or website would rank better in Google after doing this, it would go a long way to helping you rank higher in Google.

04:58

The title and description meta tags are very important for Google SEO (search engine optimization), and in this part of the course I explain how to write your title and description meta tags in order to help you get the most search traffic or at least position you as well as possible to get the traffic.

Some people ask about the keywords meta tag. As far as Google search is concerned, the keywords meta tag isn't relevant anymore, but the title and description meta tags are still very relevant, and you should pay very close attention to them, and how well you write them, and how well you use the keywords that are relevant for your website in the title and description meta tags.

02:59

In this part of our digital marketing strategy course I show you how to get your first links (backlinks) for SEO, and that is through interlinking your own pages. Yes, links from your own pages to other pages of your site do help the SEO and Google ranking of those pages, so you want to make sure to link your pages appropriately.

03:20

In this part of our marketing strategy course I show you an advanced on-page linking strategy that you can use to give your pages an SEO boost.

01:02

The Yoast SEO plugin is an industry standard, and in this part of our digital marketing course, I show you how to install the Yoast SEO plugin to your WordPress setup so that you can have your on-page SEO more easily taken care of. The Yoast plugin doesn't solve everything for you. You still have to be savvy about on-page SEO on your own, but it helps you with some SEO basics, especially if you are a beginner.

02:45

In this part of our digital marketing course I show you how to set your on-page title and description meta tags for the home page of your website to make sure you include your keywords there, and get a boost in SEO from it.

01:34

In this part of our digital marketing course I show you how to set your on-page title and description meta tags for every page of your website other than your home page to make sure you include your keywords there, and get a boost in SEO from it.

Section 5: Off-page SEO & Smart SEO
01:15

In this section of our digital marketing course, we get into some more complex SEO topics like off-page SEO. When it came to on-page SEO, we had 100% control of everything. When it comes to off-page SEO, we don't have nearly as much control because we are dependent on other people to link to our pages, and do other things to boost our digital marketing.

05:48

In this part of our online marketing course, I explain how to use the concept of SEO intent matching to rank higher in Google search, and use it to beat your SEO competition. Lectures like these make this training program different and unique because this is something effective, but at the same time hard to find anywhere else.

07:31

In this part of this SEO online marketing guide I go over a very smart strategy that you can use to rank in Google search with sites that are not yours. There are many sites on the web that are old and authoritative what are also user generated content websites. Examples of these are Yelp, YouTube, Amazon, Etsy, and many others. Those authoritative large websites have a much higher chance to rank in Google than an average person's website so if you can put content on those websites, you stand a chance to get much more exposure from being discovered via SEO on those individual platforms and on Google search itself.

05:57

In this part our online marketing course I talk about inbound marketing and how SEO is a big (huge!) part of inbound marketing. Inbound marketing is a very effective marketing strategy (almost a marketing pattern) that you should use in your marketing campaigns.

08:05

In this part of our marketing course I talk about blogging and guest blogging for SEO. Blogging on your own blog, and guest blogging on another blog are two quite different strategies. Blogging on your own blog is almost always a good idea because it helps you get more traffic and boosts your site's overall SEO. Guest blogging strategy, on the other hand, is something that is now rarely a good idea. Guest blogging used to be popular a few years ago, but Google has clamped down on it in recent years because people were abusing it, and only guest blogging to get links for SEO (sometimes called backlinks).

05:13

This is a very popular part of this coaching and online marketing course because I share the SEO strategy to rank in top 10 search results of Google search for almost any search terms except for the search terms that are so competitive that they are truly impossible to break into. Of course, the more competitive the search term, the more difficult it will be for you to rank for it and the more work you will have to put into it. Nevertheless, in this part of the course I explain exactly what you have to do to get your important pages to rank in the top-10 search results of Google.

06:53

In this part of the digital marketing course, I talk about how you can use the SEO strategies that you have been learning on search engines other than Google. When I talk about search engines other than Google, most people think about Yahoo or Bing. But I am not talking about those search engines at all. I am talking about search engines that don't immediately appear to be search engines. Some examples of those are Amazon.com, Yelp.com, mobile app stores, iTunes, Etsy.com, Shopping.com, YouTube.com and many other large online websites where people search to find the things they want, and search constitutes a very large portion of content discovery.

10:37

In this part of our online marketing training I talk about how to get links (backlinks) for SEO. Google has openly stated that the number of quality and relevant links (backlinks) has a positive effect on search ranking. Of course, knowing this, most SEO marketers started to build links and to come up with strategies to get high quality backlinks in the hopes of having their websites rank higher in search. Because of this frenzy and some abuse, Google has made many ways to get backlinks ineffective. So in this part of the course I talk about 10 effective ways to get backlinks that will actually get you real traffic and possibly customers in addition to the links for SEO.

06:41

Google doesn't tell us which links are good for our SEO, and which links are not good. We can only approximate and use general overarching principles to guess, but never know definitively. So in this part of our digital marketing course I explain how to come to a close approximation, and determine whether a backlink is good or not.

05:57

In this part of our internet marketing course I talk about a gray area within SEO, and that is the concept of keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is something that used to be effective a long time ago, and is no longer effective when it comes to Google search. Keyword stuffing is now more likely to get you penalized in Google than to give you a boost.

But the idea of keyword stuffing doesn't end there. Keyword stuffing can still be very effective on search engines that are not Google. For example, younger and less established search engines are more forgiving for keyword stuffing, and it is sometimes still very effective. I did keyword stuffing in the mobile app listing of my Android business app, and it helped that app rank very well in GooglePlay. So you must be strategic in how you pick and choose where to implement keyword stuffing, and you will be surprised at how often it can still work.

04:35

This is another part of our marketing training where I introduce an idea for how to positively influence your SEO that you will not hear in many other places. This idea is about having a large number of page views, and having that boost the SEO of your page. Even though Google never talks about page views, you can look on YouTube, and usually most of the highest ranking videos have many views. Now make sure that you understand that I am not saying that views will get you to rank. If they are low-quality views, they won't help you. But if you can get many page views where people actually engage with your content and the search engine collects positive metrics about your site, that number of page views can go a long way to helping your SEO.

07:03

In this part of our training program I talk about how to make almost any page rank in Google. It isn't easy, but it is possible.

09:28

Now that we have covered quite a bit about SEO, in this part of the course I talk about search algorithms in general. So in the future, no matter on what site you are trying to have your content or products rank higher, since in this part of the course you learn about how to dominate any search engine, you will be able to rank in whatever search engine you target in the future. This is an advanced SEO and digital marketing topic.

Section 6: Social media marketing fundamentals and good practices
01:21

This lecture is a basic introduction to the social media marketing section of the digital marketing course. We cover social media marketing in quite a bit of depth in this training because if done right, social media marketing can be a very powerful tool that you can use to position your business and your personal brand.

Common social media websites start with your blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, GooglePlus, online forums, LinkedIn, and many other social media sites.

03:09

In this part of the digital marketing course, I discuss common social media marketing errors that many first time marketers and first time entrepreneurs tend to make. The first mistake is simply posting promotional messages about your work everywhere and blatantly promoting your business or product. That just turns people off in most cases. Additional social media marketing mistakes tend to be rooted in the same thing where the entrepreneur just blatantly promotes instead of providing value first. Social media is all about being a good player and providing value. The more value you provide, the better you will do long-term. And that is the other kind of a typical mistake: not thinking long-term.

03:39

In this lecture of the digital marketing course I talk about how to do social media marketing the right way. This is how companies do social media marketing, and very smart marketers do social media marketing. They focus on leveraging social media for scalable growth, personal and business brand authority and recognition, and building customer loyalty and focusing on customer retention. Additionally, they do much of their customer service via social media which can further boost their community.

03:54

As a business owner, you should be trying to grow your social media presence as well ask focusing on how to get publicity and press coverage for your business. In this part of the course I talk about how when you grow your social media presence to be big enough, it can have the effect of getting publicity and press coverage every day, with many people discovering your business through your social channels.

05:36

In this part of our online marketing course I talk about how to write good headlines, and why writing good headlines is so important for your business. A good headline can make your content jump out, and get people's attention. And that is exactly what you need to do. You must get your business to stand out above all the other noise, and headline writing is a gigantic part of social media, and all of your marketing.

Article

Article with examples of great headlines that get attention for different types of content.

05:28

In this part of our online marketing course I talk about Google Plus (sometimes written as Google+) and how it helps your SEO. Google Plus is a very important social network because it is owned by Google itself. And since Google search has such a large control of the search industry, its social network has a lot to do with SEO. Additionally, since many of Google's services are so well connected, Google Plus is largely connected to YouTube and Google Hangouts. Make sure you post your content on Google Plus to help it rank better, and use hashtags to boost your visibility within Google Plus.

02:46

In this part of our online marketing training I talk about Quora. Quora isn't the most commonly known social media website, but it is a very big site, and I have used it successfully in the past to drive a significant amount of traffic to my website. You can use Quora to promote your business and boost your personal brand by answering people's questions there. Quora is a Q&A (question and answer) site here people ask questions about different topics. And if you answer questions about whatever subject matter you are an expert in, you can build up a big presence in Quora, get recognition, and drive traffic to your website or product.

08:08

In this part of the digital marketing course I talk about how to combine Quora and YouTube to amplify and increase your YouTube traffic. This is a very nifty growth hack, and it has worked very well for me in the past so see if you can get it to work for you by embedding your YouTube tutorials into Quora.

03:40

In this part of the online marketing course I talk about the benefits of growing your presence on YouTube. YouTube is an amazing platform to grow traffic, make money, and build your personal and business brands. I use YouTube all the time, and it is great. Later in the course I will give a very detailed overview of how you will be able to grow your presence on YouTube. For now, I just outline the basics of YouTube to get your appetite going.

05:27

In this part of the digital marketing course I discuss how to promote your business with a podcast. Podcasting is one of the most rapidly growing online and social media marketing strategies. It is very powerful because the host can make a real connection with people, and use the podcasting platform to build their personal brand. Plus, podcasting is simply fun. You get to meet many interesting guests and forge many career-long relationships with your business peers.

02:47

A short summary of social media marketing fundamentals. Later in this course we will get into more specifics of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Section 7: Tools & extra techniques to maximize your social media reach
03:13

In this part of our online marketing course I explain hashtag marketing. I show you how to use hashtags, and how hashtags can help you reach more people that wouldn't ordinarily have found your business. In a way, hashtags work like directories under which content can be found. But hashtags are much more dynamic than simple directories, and they are an integral part of social media.

05:42

In this part of our online learning, I talk about the viral coefficient formula, and what the viral coefficient is. Additionally, I talk about how to increase the virality of your website, webpage, or a piece of content. The viral coefficient is a calculation of how often people recommend your content or website, and how often people accept those recommendations. As the business owner, there are concrete things you can do to increase your viral coefficient by influencing the amount of sharing people are doing, and making it easier and more attractive for people who got invited to actually join your site.

03:21

The net promoter score is something similar to the viral coefficient formula in that it is a barometer of how much people are loving your website. The concept of the net promoter score divides your customers into three groups: people who share and recommend your business, people who don't care, and people who detract from your business by telling others about how bad it is, and why others shouldn't become clients. Obviously you want to work towards having more super fans who recommend your business, and less people who hate your business. That, for me, is the most helpful part of the net promoter score.

01:47

In this part of our online marketing course I talk about the Buffer app which is a software tool that helps you manage your social media updates. Buffer app is quickly becoming one of the industry standard social media automation tools so check it out.

02:44

In this tutorial of our marketing course I explain how to increase your social sharing and social recommendations by actually building it into your product. This is something you can plan for during the very initial stages of your business when you are just writing your business plan. But don't worry, if you didn't plan for this when you wrote your business plan, that isn't the end of the world. You can always think creatively about how to make your product to naturally get people to share. For example, if your product become better or more useful or more fun if people use it together with friends, then people will immediately recommend it. I talk about these strategies in this tutorial.

01:33

One tip to get a little bit more attention in your social media posts is to mention people in them. You can either praise people, or give them credit or just chat them up. They might decide to share or engage in conversation which will give you a little bit of an extra boost in social media exposure.

03:13

In this part of our digital marketing course I explain how I use the Revive Old Posts WordPress plugin to automate my tweeting, and stay up in hashtags that I use regularly. This strategy helps me get more exposure, and give more life to my older pages.

Section 8: Twitter marketing
04:13

In this section of our online marketing course, I make you a Twitter marketing professional. You will learn how to grow your followers on Twitter, how to get retweets, how to build your business and personal brand, and how to use actually dominate hashtags to get a large amount of extra exposure and marketing on Twitter. I will show you lots of industry research for how to get much more engagement and more followers with your Twitter account.

06:39

In this part of the digital marketing course I explain how to use a Wordpress plugin to automate your tweets, and include hashtags in your tweets. If you continuously use certain hashtags in your tweets (especially if those tweets get a good amount of engagement), you will begin to gain a certain authority within those hashtags on Twitter, and Twitter will keep your tweets up there longer than other tweets. This will get you much more visibility and more people discovering your account and ultimately finding your business this way.

01:35

In this part of the digital marketing course I talk about the ideal tweet length for your tweets. Many people think that the ideal length for tweets is 140 characters which happens to be the upper character limit. But that is wrong. When other people scan their Twitter feeds, they don't fully read all the tweets, but rather scan them. And their eyes naturally land on the tweets that are easiest to read. So if your tweets are shorter than 140 characters, it will become more attractive to people, and they will focus on your tweets more than other tweets and you will get more engagement which will help you get more followers and retweets.

01:42

In this part of our digital marketing course, I talk about the ideal number of hashtags you should use in a tweet. Research shows that two hashtags per tweet it the right amount. Using two hashtags in a tweet gives you enough extra exposure without making your tweet seem overly spammy and unreadable. So try using two hashtags in your tweets for maximum extra engagement, followers and retweets.

08:47

More strategies on how to get more retweets, more social sharing and boost your website's Google SEO in the process. In this part of the course I tie some of the SEO and social media marketing together because as you recall, social media sharing boosts your SEO, and here I show how to use Twitter to not only get more exposure on Twitter, but to also boost your search engine optimization and help your website, individual pages or product pages rank higher in Google searches.

27:19

This is a very cool video (I think) which has 25 Twitter promotion tips. Some of the tips repeat from some of the previous lectures, but nevertheless, it is good to have it compiled in one place. I also put this video on Twitter as a promotional video for this course and it actually started ranking on the first page of YouTube for the search term: Twitter marketing

10:30

In this part of the digital marketing course I explain an advanced Twitter marketing course using automation software to tweet and follow in order to get more Twitter followers, get more engagement, and hopefully even make sales on Twitter.

Section 9: Facebook marketing
02:23

Introduction to the Facebook marketing part of this digital marketing course. Facebook is something that almost all business owners think about when they consider social media marketing and online strategies for promoting their business. So this is an important section of the course.

04:01

In this part of our online course I talk about whether you should promote your business with Facebook groups, Facebook business pages, or Facebook fan pages. Since more people are not celebrities, the fan pages are more or less not an option, and the choice is between a business page and a group. If you want to build engagement and interaction, a group is much better. If you want to attract new people to your business, a Facebook business page is the right option. But keep in mind that business pages have the least engagement so you will have a hard time reaching the people who liked your page unless you pay Facebook to give you that extra boost.

06:55

In this part of the course I talk about how Facebook groups are replacing much of what LinkedIn used to be used for. Much of LinkedIn used to be about joining professional LinkedIn groups. But now I am in many professional Facebook groups, and they are much more effective and helpful.

08:03

In this part of our training program, I do a tutorial on how to squeeze out extra little bit of sales from your Facebook business page and I show you what features are available to increase sales from your Facebook business pages.

Section 11: YouTube Marketing
01:26

YouTube is a classic example of how SEO and social media can be combined for a greater effect. Earlier in this digital marketing course I showed you how I get my YouTube videos to get a lot of views by doing keyword research and placing many variations of my keywords in the title and description of the videos. Well, in this part of the course, I show you how to do social media marketing with YouTube and SEO to get a lot of views.

13:41

The VidIQ plugin gives you insights on other YouTube videos, and you can get keyword insights about your competitors.

03:23

Possibly a way to get even more views than from YouTube SEO, is the recommended videos that appear on the right side of your YouTube videos. In this part of our digital marketing course I explain how you can get your videos to be recommended.

14:16

Another tutorial about how to get your videos to rank even higher in YouTube search by doing the video embedding strategy. Using this technique, I've gotten many of my YouTube videos to rank higher in YouTube search, so I added it to this online marketing course.

05:04

Here are a few tips on how to get more subscribers on YouTube.

Section 12: Other Marketing Strategies For Specific Businesses
00:52

In this section of our online digital marketing course, I talk about the many other online marketing strategies you can use that come in handy at different times when you are doing different kinds of promotion.

05:58

This part of the course is a very basic email marketing tutorial where I explain why email marketing is so important, and how you can use email marketing to build loyal fans, and make continuous sales.

08:23

In this part of the digital marketing course I explain the strategies to promote a local business. A local business can be a doctor's or dentist office, restaurant, roofer, carpenter, moving business, home repair, shuttle service, gym, different kinds of stores, cleaning business or any other businesses that do business locally and draw customers from the local area.

08:32

If you have an event or event series that you need to promote to get many attendees to attend, this part of our training will help you with event promotion quite a bit. You will know how to promote your events with social media sites, SEO, and how to get friend recommendations to make people bring their friends to the events. These are the strategies I used to grow my own event series, and if you implement them correctly, they will help you raise your event attendance. I even explain how to use Seth Godin's Purple Cow idea to draw attention and publicity for your events.

06:11

If you want to get backlinks for SEO and publicity at the same time, you can try to put on really cool and unusual events. Sometimes you can get a lot of extra exposure from events, and in this lecture of our digital marketing course, I explain how to combine the power of events and publicity and SEO to have an extremely potent combination.

08:35

Just in case your business is a mobile app, this lecture is for you, explaining how to promote apps.

Again, if your business is a mobile app business, this strategy combines YouTube with app marketing, two things we covered in this digital marketing course.

07:50

In this tutorial I talk about how to get referrals for your business in 3 different ways. You can get referrals which are friend recommendations, paid incentive referrals where you pay a commission to whoever refers you, or set up a referral exchange with businesses that have similar client profiles to yours.

09:11

In this part of our digital marketing course I explain how to choose a good domain name that will help you stand out and appear professional.

04:23

If you need to set up your website in order to do your digital marketing, this tutorial will explain how to do it.

09:07

Affiliate marketing isn't necessarily part of this digital marketing course. It only sounds like it should be. But many people are interested in affiliate marketing these days, so I wanted to cover it here. Affiliate marketing is the marketing of products or services made by other businesses for a commission. Ironically, to promote affiliate products or services, you still need to learn and do digital marketing that much of this course covers.
