In this section, students are introduced to the Manifold GIS interface.  Specifically, they will learn about the basic panes for projects, viewbots, views, and layers.  Also, students will learn about the file and edit menus in Manifold GIS.

Students will learn how to format drawings, specifically how to format point, line, and area features.  Students will also learn how to work with overlapping layers and thematic formatting.

Students will learn about the really cool tools that Manifold GIS has for editing drawings, including how to cut, copy, and paste drawing components.  Also, students will learn how to edit drawings by adding points, lines, and areas, in addition to leveraging advanced tools in the Manifold editing capabilities for creating instant data and complex shapes.

In this section, students will dig deeper into image components and will include an overview of images, creating, importing, and georeferencing images, and also how to utilize image menus.


Students will learn the basics of surfaces in Manifold GIS, and will learn how to import, link, and manipulate surfaces.

Students will learn how to work with terrains in Manifold GIS, and this will include creating terrain overlays with vector and raster data, as well as navigating the terrain component.

Students will learn about the basics of layers within a Manifold map component.  This will include how to add and remove layers, set layer opacity, merge layers together, and how to create images from layers.


A key to really advancing your Manifold GIS skills is learning how to work with the drawing menu.  In this section, students will learn how to perform spatial overlay, topological overlay (identity, intersection, and union), transfer selected features from one layer to another layer, and also how to transfer data between raster to vector.

Manifold has a ton of capabilities built into the query toolbar.  In this section, students will learn how to query components (drawings, images, surfaces, tables) using the toolbar in addition to how to manipulate and alter components through the query toolbar.
