Great videos boost sales

Smart companies realize that great video boosts sales. And you can make your own professional videos for next to nothing by following our simple video production techniques.

  • If you’re a business owner, a freelancer or a startup…
  • a skilled artisan or an ambitious manager…
  • if you work in education, a sports club or a non-profit...

...you can reach your target audiences easily by creating videos.

By learning simple video production techniques, you'll be able to make unlimited videos quickly and easily, you’ll attract new customers and educate them in how to use your products or services - before they even buy. And you’ll build loyalty among your existing customers, encourage repeat purchases and teach people to get even more value from what you offer.

We’re not talking about slick, expensive ‘corporate’ videos that no-one watches... nor long, dull, unsteady videos that look awful and are more than likely to drive customers away rather than win them over.

We’ll show you how to make honest, quality video that feature you, your staff or your customers at their very best - video production that shows the human side of your operation.

And we’ll show you how to use video production to educate your customers - because educated customers are everyone’s best customers. They’re frequent users, they tell their family and friends how great you are and, above all, they’re loyal. Heck, they’ll even share your videos and do your marketing for you.

This video production course shows you how to create such videos, how to publish them and how to promote them - without having to spend a fortune on technology.

And yes, this course will help even if you’ve never made videos before, or if you don’t own expensive video equipment. The truth is that most people already have the technology to make great videos, sitting unused on their smartphones, tablets or desktops.

But there’s one big problem!

If your videos are not engaging, entertaining and informative, your audience will quickly turn away. That means the knowledge you have will never reach them ...never enrich their lives ...and never give you the warm glow of satisfaction in passing your skills along to others.

And that’s where this course comes in

We’ll show video production skills you can use with minimum expenditure and little need for technical knowledge or complicated equipment.

This is not a course about video production technology... or the latest video cameras ...or the expensive accessories that will give you the cleverest effects.

On this course, we believe it’s not about buying more technology, but about learning what to do with the technology you already have. Yes, that’s right! You probably have all the technology you need right there in your smartphone or tablet.

You'll find over 30 video production lessons in 4 important sections:

  1. Why you need next to nothing to start. That’s because today’s electronic devices are jam-packed with video production technology and features - most of it underused or completely ignored. We’ll show you how to get super results with equipment that you already own.
  2. How to make videos your audience wants to see. We’ll show you how to easily find the questions your audiences are already asking online - and how you can turn that into an endless source of relevant video topics so you’ll never be short of new ideas.
  3. How to edit videos for impact and enjoyment. We’ll share professional video production tricks and insider tips that will save you time and add a professional aura to your work. We’ll show you how to make videos your audience will really enjoy.
  4. How to publish on YouTube (and elsewhere). We’ll take you step-by-step through the YouTube publishing process and show you the free, underused tools they already provide to make your videos the very best they can be!

You'll also find worksheets and resources - and recommendations on the best and cheapest equipment.

So start learning to harness the benefits of inexpensive video production and promote yourself, your business or your organization.

How to produce videos your audience wants to see

Many people decide to stop watch a video within a few seconds! So you need to look the part and engage your audience from the start - so they can see that your video is going to be useful and worth watching. In this video we'll give you a quick, practical checklist of 7 tips that will make your audience stick around to listen to your message.

How To Look The Part On Screen

Smartphones can really produce top-notch video. But there's one big problem - you can't be in front of the camera presenting AND behind the camera directing the action at the same time. Many people solve this by using the front facing camera on their phones - but the quality of this camera is much less that the back camera. But we'll show you how to overcome this problem and record at the highest quality.

How to Video Yourself With A Smartphone

Who Exactly Is Your Audience?

Answering people's questions is a great approach to planning your videos. But if you rely solely on brainstorming you'll soon run out of ideas. In this video, we show you the secret of 'Google operators' - a really easy, but little known way to force Google to reveal many thousands of questions people have in your industry. If you want endless ideas for videos to make, don't miss this lesson!

A script can be very useful to keep your video on track - but you don't always need one. In this video, we'll show you 4 ways to prepare for video - even if you're strapped for time or if you're asked to give an interview with next to no warning.

When To Use A Script (And When Not To)

Interviews can be among the most popular videos you'll create. We'll show you how to overcome this problem and create engaging, powerful interviews every time.

How To Set Up A Seamless Interview

An untidy or poorly thought out background can seriously undermine your message.  Yet getting it right is easy - no matter how cluttered your office or home might be - and in this video we'll how to create a background that will enhance what you have to say.

In this video we'll look at how to get professional quality lighting for next to nothing. We'll show you how you can use natural light to great effect - and if that's not possible in your setup, we'll show you how to get maximum benefit from artificial light, using nothing more than an ordinary desk lamp.

Professional Lighting On A Budget

Considering it's a visual medium, you might think it's odd that the sound is even more important than the picture. Your audience may tolerate poor video, but not poor sound, and they'll click away. Yet sound is the one element you can easily and cheaply improve. We'll show you how in this video.

Professional Sound On A Budget

Light, shadows and color can make plain backgrounds more interesting and can elevate your videos a couple of notches above the average. In this video, we'll show you visual effects created with everyday props that can easily be found around the home.

In this video, we'll explain how editing helps you keep your audience, how it makes you look like a real genius - and how it can persuade people to do exactly what you want them to do!

How Editing Helps Your Viewers Get The Message

YouTube has got a pretty good online editor that will allow you to discard clips, add video clips and add music. Now you don't need to buy editing software - you can do it all for free. In this video, we take you on a tour of the editor and give you a taste of what you can do.

Using The Built-In YouTube Video Editor

In this video, we'll show you exactly how to edit two clips into a single, meaningful video. It's a simple step-by-step walkthrough that you can use on your own videos.

Publishing on YouTube (and elsewhere)
8 Lectures 54:39

It's ironic that the first step once you've uploaded your video is to make sure no-one can see it! That's because you want to enhance your video with a good title, description and tags so that it has a chance of appearing in search results. You'll want to use a custom thumbnail so that when you do come up in search results, people will want to click through and have a look. In this video we explain and take you through a 7-step publishing process for every video you make.

Publishing Part 1

How to move viewers from from watching your videos on YouTube across to your website where you can sell them stuff - that's the whole purpose after all! We'll also explore other platforms such as Vimeo - where, unlike YouTube, you can actually sell your videos.

Publishing Part 2

To be able to link out to your own website from Youtube, you need to formally 'associate' your website with your YouTube Channel. It can be a bit tricky but we'll take you through the process step-by-step.

Video Snapshots: Great Videos from Ordinary Businesses
3 Lectures 02:31

This lesson is part of  a monthly series, Great Videos from Ordinary Businesses that we'll be publishing as PDFs with live links to the videos and the companies behind them.

In the series we’re going to share the best of videos that we’ve found on YouTube and beyond. Videos that have attracted a lot of attention and followers. We’ll include a range of videos - interview videos, sales videos, how-to videos and much more.

The first two featured videos are:

ModCloth, a clothes retailer based in New York City takes to the street to interview potential customers - the results are fresh and fun - and it shows techniques anyone can learn.

Seriously Strong Cheddar, a family cheesemaker in the west of Scotland. The video features Rory Christie talking to camera and uses lots of B-roll very well.

We’ve chosen these videos because they each have specific ideas and lessons that you can apply to your own business or situation. Understand how these videos became popular, how they were made and then see what you can create following the same pattern.

In our professional lives, we’ve both learned the value of watching what other people do - of finding great examples and learning from them.

We urge you to do the same in your industry. Have fun!

Continuing our series, Great Videos from Ordinary Businesses, we add another two videos as PDFs with live links to the videos and the companies behind them.

The two featured videos are:

BrewDog, a craft brewer from Scotland whose marketing and company ethos is as refreshing as their beer. This is a great 'direct to camera' piece that's wonderfully effective - and is something you could emulate with a little bit of effort!

The ChrisFix Channel publishes this video, How to Inspect a Used Car for Purchase that is shot at the side of the road - literally! Chris demonstrates his tremendous knowledge in this 10 minute video - without worrying too much about getting all the video techniques exactly right. This is a superb piece of work - 1.7 million subscribers seem to agree!

Snapshots #3 & #4: BrewDog + ChrisFix Channel

Continuing our series on YouTube videos that are simple, inspiring and successful, we've added two more - each of them has attracted over 25 million views on YouTube. They're an inspiration to us all:

Dollar Shave Club whose promotional video, featuring their own CEO went viral, and played a huge part in their success. A success that led to the start-up being bought by Unilever for $1 billion. I first came across this in an article on Mashable, 'Is this the best startup video ever?'. In our opinion, it is!

Purple Feather were inspired to develop an idea based on a Spanish video they came across nearly 10 years ago (Yes, old videos can be a great source of inspiration!) Purple Feather brought the idea to the streets of their native Glasgow, and created a wonderful video with a great message, The Power of Words.

Video & TV Commercial Producer, Award Winning Broadcaster

Tosh Lubek is a multi award winning broadcaster, writer and video production specialist who has worked with radio and TV broadcasters, advertising agencies and direct clients. In a 30+ year career his work includes radio and television advertising, video production and radio programming.

Tosh has also shared his knowledge as a guest lecturer, teaching students at both Aberdeen and Ayr Colleges. In recent years he has worked as a consultant, teaching video production to SMEs seeking to make their own promotional videos easily and affordably.

Tosh works with local and national clients on radio, TV and video production projects. His clients include local government, the National Health Service, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Television, Fife and Ayrshire Chambers of Commerce and numerous advertising agencies.

Tosh started in traditional media but embraced new media as early as 1995 when he created his first website. In 2007 he launched an entertainment channel on Metacafe, then the third largest video sharing site. This allowed him to make videos that attracted millions of views, earning the channel significant revenues from Metacafe’s Producer Rewards program. Further channels followed on YouTube for local video marketing, product review videos and business tips. The revenues this time coming from business clients, Google’s advertising revenue share and affiliate programs.

In 2010 he launched Tosh Lubek Productions, a media production company based in south west Scotland, offering audio and video production services to clients across the UK. His ability to make videos that convert and also make videos quickly has attracted many clients and has been much in demand to make website videos and TV commercials.

The work of Tosh Lubek Productions has helped with the commercial success of many clients. For instance, when Tosh was asked to make videos for Kirbie Engineering Solutions they helped increase sales by almost 200%. A product demo video for a new ladder safety product helped another Scottish client sell most of their initial stock within three weeks of launch. There have also been numerous successful radio commercials. Campaigns for the National Trust for Scotland helped the Trust achieve their “best ever Easter” and doubled visitor numbers at their Haddo House Christmas events.

Industry awards have come Tosh’s way for his work in broadcasting. As writer and producer of a road safety campaign he landed a Gold Sony and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the New York Festivals International Advertising Awards. Another advertising campaign for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and a radio documentary brought further award success in the United Kingdom and the USA.
