The warm up helps us to tune into our body and check which parts of our body feel stiff, tense or less flexible. When you warm up, take it slowly and focus on the part of your body that you're warming up. If you're older or you haven't done any exercise in a while then feel free to stop the video and take a bit longer. There should be no pain during any of these exercises.

This gentle warm up, prepares your body for your Qigong Workout.

Qigong Warm Up #2

The Five Fundamental Stances are the keys to learning the Shaolin Forms. They strengthen your legs, open your hips and build your co-ordination and balance. Older people or people with less flexibility should do the stances higher than me. When you practise the stance, you want to feel stable. It’s a good idea to take time getting the stances right. Check your stance in the mirror. There should be no pain in the knee, if there is then you are doing something incorrectly and need to stop.

Five Fundamental Stances
06:03

Focus on your breath and movement as you link the stances together. You want to feel stable and focused. Is your back straight? Is your behind tucked in? Are you grabbing the floor with your feet? Are your eyes focused? When you do Longevity Qigong you use EVERY part of your body when you practice including your eyes and your mind.

Five Fundamental Stances - Flow

The key to ultimate flexibility is a combination of static and dynamic stretching. Please don't feel discouraged when you see me stretching. If you are as stiff as a board and your muscles are tight, you will get as much benefit from your stretch as I do from mine and overtime you'll be surprised how flexible you will become. You don't need to do the splits but you do need to have a certain degree of flexibility to prevent stiffness and keep your body young. It's good to aim for the splits because it opens the hips and stretches the legs at the same time. There should be no pain when you stretch, but a gentle stretch that deepens as you breathe into it.

Essential Stretching
12:22

The link between body and mind is the breath. When you practice Qigong your focus needs to be narrow and rest only on the breath and movement together. The quality of these two elements demonstrate the level of your concentration. As your practice deepens so does your concentration, so that eventually your Longevity Qigong become a meditation in it own right.

1st Qigong Movement - Tuo Tian Shi - Push The Sky
07:36

In this sequence you practice two of the Five Fundamental Stances, Ma Bu and Gong Bu. Practice these stances as high or low as your comfort level. Your arms make the shape of firing an arrow from a bow.

2nd Qigong Movement - Kai Gong Shi - Bow And Arrow
06:48

Old Warriors carried a sword behind their back and this movement is similar to them taking a sword out of their holster. The sequence looks easy to do but remember to activate your stretch and grab the floor with your feet.

3rd Qigong Movement - Dan Jue Shi - 1 Hand Plucking The Stars
09:17

In China we say about this movement, “You move your head, you turn your tail, you cool your body down”. This balances Yin and Yang.

4th Movement - Yao Tou Shi - Take Your Shoes Off
07:32

In this movement you use your Qi to make your lower body go up into an arch. When you stretch your back, make sure that you curve upwards to activate a deep stretch in your back.

5th Movement - Pan Jiao Shi - Hold Your Feet
07:35

Keep your eyes sharp and use Internal and External Qi. This is the only sequence when your eyes don’t look peaceful. This movement helps you gain energy. When you have finished your punch and are turning the wrists, imagine you are pulling something towards you.

6th Movement - Zhuan Quan Shi - Clench Your Fist
04:54

Explanation of 7th Movement - Qi Dian Shi - Seven Stamps
06:08

In this sequence, you use your heel to stamp and keep the rest of your body relaxed. At the same time as you stamp, you need to push your palm downwards. When you stamp visualise that you are expelling toxins from your body

7th Movement - Qi Dian Shi - Seven Stamps
02:59

Once you know the movements, you then link them together from sequence one to sequence seven. You can choose whether to use one breath in the neutral position. If your breathing is strong and in natural then you only need to stand in neutral for one breath before continuing with the next movement.

8th Movement - Quan Shi - Link Together

What Is The Instant Health Massage?
02:43

It is beneficial to finish your Qigong with a self-massage as it greatly increases the power of your Qigong. The bamboo rods in the brush create vibrations which help to relieve stress and tension in the muscles, assist in unblocking the meridian channels, and help the body to detox through the stimulation of the lymphatic system. Your bamboo massage brush is a cost effective way of receiving a sports massage and shiatsu massage in one.

The bamboo brush if for health and longevity. The metal brush is for martial artists. It is a Shaolin Monks weapon against illness and injury. It’s important to use a high quality brush and not share it with another person. The brush is available from my website. Depending on how much you use your brush, the bamboo brush will give you about a year’s worth of massages.
