Section 1: Some Basics

This is a quick welcome video and an overview of the four key elements of the Bright Yellow Social Media Success Model.

Section 2: Planning Your Strategy
Who Are Your Clients?
Planning Your Strategy
2 pages
Section 3: Optimising Your Profile

How to add an image to your profile page

How a Hidden Box Can Transform Your Profile. In this lecture I show you one of the most important parts of your LinkedIn profile - your headline summary - and how to word it in such a way that you will attract prospects.

A hidden gem - most people don't realise that you can tweak your web links to help you get found in searches.

The way in which you word your summary can attract the right people to you, as well as providing extra key words to help you come up in search results. This is your main chance to tell people what you do and how you can help them.

Recommendations build trust. If someone is thinking of working with you, recommendations will distinguish you from your competitors. In this video I show you the two different ways of getting a recommendation:- an outright request to someone that you know, or a more subtle, but equally successful way.

Endorsements have been one of the most controversial LinkedIn updates. In this lecture I show you how to control what people endorse you for and how to manage endorsements.

How well are you doing? This quick video shows you how to check whether the changes you are making are having an effect. You can also see how well you are doing compared to your connections (for the competitive amongst us!)

Section 4: Making the Most of Your Connections

Who you connect with is a big topic on LinkedIn, giving rise to lots of group discussions. Here are some things to think about. This will help you to work out your strategy. This is a written summary of the video in lecture 14

In this lecture we cover tips for dealing with connection requests - including my secret tip!

In this lecture we cover how to connect with people you know, plus tips for connecting with people who you don't know but who are possible prospects or people you would like to connect with.

2 pages

This tip may seem obvious when you read it, but 99% of people I meet don't do this.

This video shows you how you can categorise your connections with a view to sending them messages. Please note that this feature may be removed by LinkedIn in the near future. As at March 2016 it is still working for me but not for long.

Once it stops working, you can either use your tags to segment your audience and copy and paste individual messages to people via your "Connections" tab, or you can go to your "Messages" folder and send a message to multiple people from that tab. You would need to call them up by name, and everyone will see everyone else's name in the message.

The attached download covers this in detail.

Did you know that you can download all your connection data, including email addresses? You need to ensure that you comply with data laws, but this video gives you some tips on how you can use that data on other social media platforms.

NB I mention Facebook Graph Search. If you are in the UK you will need to change your facebook settings to "English (US)" in order for this to work. Get in touch if you need information on how to do this.

Section 5: Groups
Groups: an overview
3 pages

This video covers how to control the number of group digest emails you receive plus a few tips on taking part in discussions.

Why Set Up Your Own Group?
1 page

If you have decided to set up your own group, this lecture will take you through every step, from setting the group up, deciding on the type of group and its settings, including two key tips to use as part of your LinkedIn Success Strategy:

1. setting up automatic replies to people who join the group and

2. how to send a group announcement (ie how to email every member of the group - even if you don't know their email address!)

So, you have created a group, what do you post as group discussions to make your group interesting and get people interacting? This video gives you a number of ideas and examples. Even if you don't create your own group, this video will give you ideas as to things you can post on groups that you are a member of.

Section 6: Adding Content: Making It Easy

In this video I show you how to add an image to various sections of your profile, a quick overview of Slideshare, as well as adding images to status updates and company page updates.

This lecture gives you some ideas of things to post, places to find content, and some tools to use to automate and schedule some of your posting of content to LinkedIn.

This video covers two tools that allow you to share any web page without leaving the page. No need to open up and log in separately to LinkedIn. The video shows you how to use these tools, the download summarises how you can add the LinkedIn Bookmarklet to your browser, and the link takes you to a blog post that explains how to set up hootsuite.

LinkedIn now allow you to add long form posts, which include formatting and which can be viewed by non-LinkedIn users. This is a great way to recycle old blog posts, or an alternative to a blog if you haven't yet set one up. If your post is successful, LinkedIn will promote it!

I have attached a pdf with a full explanation of Company Pages as at November 2014.
