•Groups are semi-natural collections of people interested in and potentially influential on specific topics.
•Activity within a groups shows on your timeline and can help establish your thought leadership (if you really have any!)
•Groups are the best way to build real relationships on LinkedIn.
Want to Create a LinkedIn Group?
•Navigate to “Interests : Groups” and look for “Create a Group” on the top right hand side.
•Be Prepared:
–Have a Logo
–A good keyword researched Group Name
–Think hard about group type
–Have a concise summary written
–Have a call to action in your full length description
•Typically you want your group to be public and listed in the directory, obviously there are many exception to this rule!
•If possible, tie your group back to a website that supports group content and conversations.
•I would make the group “open” if at all possible to encourage membership.
•You need to invite people who have genuine interest in your topic.
•You can build off of your own contacts.
•You can use LinkedIn Search to find those with interests or skills.
•You first job is to nurture content and conversations.
