This is the end of 2015 as I am reviewing the course that has been up on Udemy since 2013. The biggest change in my world is that on August 25 of this year my husband passed away. I will never regret having participated in our relationship using what I learned and what I teach. I suffer no guilt and no regrets - just rivers of sadness.
I’ve done many things to promote myself as a coach. I thought you might like to see this. The idea came from my husband who said something like, “If you want to be good as something, whether it’s tennis or marketing, you have to really DO IT or you are just a DABBLER” or something like that.
I love to coach and help people uncover their
talents and gifts. It’s like getting to live my much loved pastime every day.
My favorite hobby for years now is to watch people grow. (download this and read more about my philosophy of how to be a great coach which is also my philosophy of life)
Please note: Sometimes you will hear me mention YOU University during a video. That's because I am giving you some of the things I train my coaches with. Enjoy!
Please create 3-5 affirmations in each area of the circle that you want to change.
Here is what Jack Canfield says to do:
Start with the words “I am.” These are the two most powerful words in the English language.
Use the present tense.
State it in the positive. Affirm what you want, not what you don’t want.
Keep it brief.
Make it specific.
Include an action word ending with –ing.
Include at least one dynamic emotion or feeling word.
Make affirmations for yourself, not others.
Examples of Daily Affirmations
Here’s an example of an affirmation following these guidelines:
I am joyfully driving my new red Porsche Carrera convertible down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
Or if you are more ecologically minded, you can make that a new Tesla.
You can use the following simple formula: I am so happy and grateful that I am now … and then fill in the blank.
Some examples would be:
I am so happy and grateful that I am now earning $150,000 a year.
I am so happy and grateful that I am now celebrating having achieved my ideal weight of 140 pounds.
Please note: I'm really not sure how to create office hours as I mention in the video but I am available. Just reach out.
An example of resistance from my life: In the past two days I have found a bug in the Udemy system which caused a friend to look like he gave me one star when in fact that's not true at all. In addition, I dropped my partial bridge and thought it went into the inner workings of the stove. Turned out it was easily found after taking the stove half apart. Am I just a klutz? Do I just have bad luck? I don't think so. For some reason which I'm not clear on, I am creating weird stuff happening. Listen and see what you think.
(I shall now use the Resistance Tool myself!)
Use this visualization for any time you feel resistance to doing what you know in truth that you want to do.
Changing your mindset might be just the key to success you need. I mention a video on meditation but Udemy asked me to remove it because it isn't mine. I suppose that has to do with permissions. Anyway, you can go to youtube and search for One Moment Meditation and it'll teach quick and easy and be entertaining also.
As I said, I am not the marketing expert. I love teaching but I don't really love teaching marketing. Kat does so she is perfect for it.
One of the things I did along the way was to attend a local networking group (where I ultimately determined, only business coaches got business because everyone wants to improve their business and doesn't see how the work I do might accomplish that). But the point of mentioning this is that with my 30 seconds in front of the room to introduce myself, my son wrote me the following poem:
There's a subject I'd really like to broach.
But this short time isn't much for a coach.
My job is to give advice and tips.
In the realm of life and relationships.
But here I can't say much, just give a dose.
I need more time, though I'm not verbose.
While I'm not perfect and I'm no messiah.
I help people plenty and my name is Maia.
I'd like to end my little rhyme.
Saying lets get together when we have more time.
I use this on my homepage. It says what the requirements of YOU University are and in a way, it sort of takes away something or kind of challenges someone which might be a good idea to have people look further. I hope so because some of the frustration that happens as a coach or at least me as a coach is someone thinking they are signing up for something and finding out part way through that it's not what they thought. My view is that their egos get in the way since egos want things to stay the same, and YOU University predicts and expects transformation and change.

If I don't tell you my fees and then I may cause expectations in those who'd like to work with me but who either don't have the money or don't think they are important enough to warrant spending that kind of money.
If you decide you'd like to find me, look at my profile here on Udemy and you can find my website and on my site is contact information and information about my fees.
(I know I said that I don't recommend fees put on a website. I still agree with that UNLESS you put yourself in a venue like this where people can get to know you. I just realized that I kind of cheat you if I don't put them so here they are:
Individual coaching - $500/month
Group coaching - $300/month
In order to attract clients, you have to know how to have them find you.
You're heading into the last section where you'll here two interviews of coaches and where they are with what they want to create. I've also left you with a few words on training and my thoughts on use of tools and change. If you'd like to reach me for any reason, please look at my profile here on Udemy and you'll find my website. Thank you.
You can reach Savina Cavallo on my website which you can find in my profile here on Udemy. Any one of the three coaches interviewed would love to talk to you about coaching with them - as would I. They would also be happy to tell you what it is like to be a coach. Ask us questions.
This is the end of the course. I hope you enjoyed it. Please write your comments and rate the class (I hope it's a good rating :))
Basically, it's use it or lose it - just like in exercise. If you and/or your clients don't continuously use what you learn, nothing will change.
You will see the introduction to YOU University 2.0 in this video. When I made this series my husband was there to support all of my work. Now he is supporting me from "the other side".

Therapeutic Factors in Group Counseling: Implications for Audiologic Rehabilitation
Sue Ann Erdman
His[1] categories of therapeutic factors include:
·Universality - Universality is the realization that one's concerns or problems are not unique or rare but, in fact, also are experienced by others.
·Instillation of hope
·Imparting information
·Altruism - provides opportunities for an individual to be of help to others. Group members benefit significantly from the support and advice they provide one another. Such give and take within a group engenders a spirit of altruism. Members discover that the act of offering something to another, without any expectation of getting in return, can be a deeply satisfying experience. For many, realizing that they have something of value to offer others increases feelings of self-worth. Conversely, group members who receive spontaneous support recognize that they matter to others, which increases their sense of worthiness.
·Imitative behavior - Although group members can learn from observing and listening to the group counselor, they also learn from observing and listening to one another.
·Group cohesion - Establishing an atmosphere of trust, warmth, empathy, understanding, and acceptance is not merely desirable, it is essential for a successful outcome. Group cohesiveness is a function of the individual group members' relationships with the counselor, with other members, and with the group as a whole.
·Interpersonal learning - Interpersonal learning involves coming to know oneself without distortions, understanding how one is perceived by others, and realizing how one can improve interpersonal functioning. For this discussion, interpersonal learning can best be couched in terms of insight.
·Development of socializing techniques - Although social learning occurs in all support and psychoeducational groups, the types of skills and the specific processes used to teach them can vary considerably. Interpersonal learning affords group members the opportunity to recognize their problems or shortcomings; the development of socializing techniques affords them the opportunity to replace inadequate or maladaptive cognition and behaviors with more effective ways of conceptualizing their world and interacting in it
·Corrective Recapitulation of the family - that groups evoke memories and feelings of one's family of origin that influence one's role in a group as well as one's attitudes and interactions with the group leader(s) and other members.
·Catharsis -Catharsis, also referred to in the literature as abreaction, emotional insight, experiencing, and corrective emotional experience, is characterized by an expression or experience of emotion that is in some way liberating or enlightening for the individual. The emotions experienced or conveyed may be current ones or those associated with past events. Although originally viewed as therapeutic simply from the standpoint of an emotional “purging” or “cleansing,” the actual mechanism of change is now recognized as requiring an ensuing cognitive component that involves reflection and processing of the emotional experience.
·Existential factors - For self-identity to evolve, the mindfulness entailed in emotional processing and cognitive restructuring appears to require an existential component. This existential component involves an awareness of the limitations and inevitabilities inherent in life, facts that group commentary frequently underscores. Wry statements such as “It is what it is” or, as one rather prim elderly woman once put it to a fellow group member, “Doo-doo happens!” are reminders that life is difficult, finite, and inescapable.
The occurrence and impact of these therapeutic factors vary within a group and from group to group. Additionally, some factors play a more significant role at different stages of the group than other factors. Not all group members experience the same therapeutic factors in the same way or to the same degree. Nonetheless, research has demonstrated significant trends in terms of the interactions among, and the effects from, these mechanisms of change.

Are you thinking of becoming a coach? Or are you already a coach and want an inexpensive way to peep into another coach's views and learning about coaching.
I will teach you much of what I know about being a coach and attracting clients, etc. I can teach you all of that but be willing and able to put the time in to make it happen. Like every service and every product, you will have to either hire someone to help you with marketing or if you use a company like Kajabi, they have the ability to offer online classes and create your website with all the things you need for marketing - email marketing, etc. Ask me and I will suggest other resources that are available to help you get started.
In my program, I have a course online on my Kajabi site called YOU University. It contains all that I teach my clients so they can heal emotionally. They work independently on that and we meet weekly for our coaching call so they can ask questions and tell me how it’s going and I can see what progress they are making in their learning.
We all seem to have this magical thing I call "attraction power". It's a mystery. Maybe it's karma. Maybe it's what you chose before you incarnated into you. Maybe if you work the Law of Attraction, it will get you what you want. It’s as if we live on two levels - the human and the spiritual. So we need to pay attention to both - no matter your way of doing so.
I don't know if any business is easy but I do know that it is about attracting and working with clients - working with them in a unique way so that their experience is everything it can be. That means that you will be honing your skills and growing as a coach and a human being for as long as you live. And the more you attract a client, the more chance there is of referrals.
You can apply this course learning to any kind of coaching or you can use it to complete some of the requirements to be a YOU University Coach. Look for the website with my name Maia Berens.
