**In a newer release, they've changed where the audio settings for importing as mono are; they are now in the 'timeline' tab in Premiere Pro preferences. I recommend importing all audio files as mono. This way, for example, if you are importing audio from a recording device such as the H6, or from a camera that has recorded a different mic in each channel, you'll be able to have each channel of audio on it's own mono track, instead of both channels being in 1 stereo track, which can be a pain to edit and make changes to.**
