This course is taken from my Photoshop Compendium as a stand alone course, during this course you will learn my techniques for creating "The Elf" a stylised fantasy based image.
During this course we will look at a load of techniques to achieve this look, out goal is for you to be able to go it alone and create amazing images of your own.
Who is the course for?
What will we cover?
We will use is Photoshop CC although CS5 and above is fine.
I will cover everything you need to know in order to create this image.
Download of the source files and the actual PSD file. Feedback and help section to ask questions and get help if you get stuck at any point.
Lets take a look at what we will be doing during this course.
Quick look at Image sizes inside Photoshop, unrelated to course but worth going over quickly for you.
Having a DUal monitor set up can be extremely usefull for working with Photoshop and other applications where desktop real estate is precious.
Make sure your graphics card support this check the back connections.
Your files to download and follow along.
Now we have our image open lets make a few adjustments to get the image corrected for the course ahead.
Using frequency seperation on our image we can seperate the details from the colour allowing us a lot more control, also not this same practice could be used for any images.
Using Liquify is a distructive workflow which I am against however this is great for slight modifications and really fun especially if your doing charactures.
Please note we will be looking at other ways to do this using distortion tools, aslo its good to note you can still keep the original image and blend the effects into them!
Blending in our liquified image so it looks perfect!
Alternative approach to image modifications.
Using curves adjustment to colour our image, in this lecture we will push some og the curves to get the general tone correct.
We will also look at sharpening some of the details.
Lets look at a technique for colouring and sharpening our eyes.
I think the image needs some dramatic makeup lets do it!
Ok now lets really add a bit of drama to our scene by adding two rim lights to both left and right.
With the addition of the rim lights we now need to use some curves to make the mid section look correct.
Lets isolate with layer masks out lip and also tinti them slightly.
Overall atmosphere needs to be added to the front, to give this image even more drama.
Lets saturate and colour correct the ivy.
