In this part of the boxing course, you will learn how to use hand wraps to protect your hands and decrease the risk of injury to your hands. Without wrapping your hands, you have more of a risk to injure your wrist, thumb, knuckles, and the small bones around your hand. Additionally, if you don't wrap your hands, you will be more likely to scratch your hands, and get blisters which will make it painful to punch and painful to keep training. So learn to properly wrap your hands for boxing or MMA fighting, and decrease injury risk.
In this part of the training, you learn how to have correct stance and correct footwork for boxing, kickboxing and MMA fighting. Footwork is part of your offense and defense. Your mobility during the fight will help you keep your opponent off balance, while helping it make it more difficult for them to hit you. They will always have to keep adjusting as you move around, and it will make things harder for your opponent. The trick with boxing or kickboxing footwork is not to get yourself tired, and not to get your feet tangled and trip yourself.
In this part of the training you will learn the right way to hold your hands during boxing, kickboxing or MMA fighting. You have to hold your hands by your temples, almost touching the temples. Especially for beginners in boxing, one of the first things you must learn is to hold your hands up at all times. When you don't pay attention to it, or when you get tired, your hands might start to slack and go down, and that is when you will leave your face open to get hit. So make sure to get into the habit of keeping your hands up at all times, and work on your defense in boxing, kickboxing and MMA style fighting. Defense is key. You don't want to get hit. And keeping your hands up will go a long way in helping you protect yourself.
The jab is the most important punch in boxing. It is a defensive punch as well as an offensive punch. When you want to keep your opponent far, you can use the jab to keep them at a distance, and when you want to throw a punch combination, most of the time you will start with the jab as the starting punch of whatever combination you are planning to use. You should always practice the jab and become very good at it. The jab is a very important punch. It should be quick and almost like a snap. Make sure that after you use the jab to always bring your hand back to your temple to protect your face in case your opponent throws a counter combination.
The jab is a full extension punch. It is meant to be a quick punch, and an almost a snap of the arm. You always want to bring your hand back in a defensive position after you throw your jab. Some mistakes that people make are not throwing the jab quickly and not extending their arm fully.
The cross is a powerful punch that is frequently used. You must use your full body weight when you use the cross. The power of this punch comes from the transfer of your weight from your back leg to your front leg. So when you throw the cross, you are not just using your arm, but putting your weight behind the punch, and that is what makes the cross such a powerful punch. Plus, if you add speed to the punch, it makes the cross an even more powerful punch because you hit your opponent with a lot of speed and the force of your body weight. They will feel it if you learn how to use the cross punch correctly.
The hook is another punch that is made powerful because of the speed with which you throw the punch combined with the transfer of your weight. Many people, especially beginners, throw very wide hooks. That is wrong because your opponent can see the hook coming. The correct way to throw the hook is to turn your body rather than to hit with your hand, and make the turn quick and compact. That way you preserve the element of surprise with the punch, and you don't open up defensively.
In this part of our training, you learn how to correctly throw the uppercut. This punch isn't as common as the jab, cross and the hook, but the uppercut is still a very important punch. Plus, it can really catch your opponent by surprise since they may be used to try to defend the other punches. The way you generate power with your uppercut is to also use your body weight transfer and almost dig into the punch. You want to turn your wrists up when you use the uppercut.
The superman punch isn't common in boxing, but it is more common in MMA style fighting and Muay Thai fighting. The advantage of the superman punch is that it allows you to close the distance between you and your opponent pretty quickly, and catch them by surprise.
The elbow is also not a boxing move, but it is more common in MMA style fighting and Muay Thai fighting. It is a powerful strike if you can catch your opponent with an elbow during a fight because the elbow is so hard, and a clean elbow strike can really hurt and knock out your opponent. When you use the elbow, the technique resembles a hook. In fact, sometimes if you throw a hook and miss, you may still try to catch your opponent with the elbow.
The overhead punch is another powerful punch which is effective against taller people. The punch is very powerful because just like the cross it generates power from speed and the transfer of your body weight. Plus the punch has a long stride which also helps it get its power. It should be used as more of a surprise punch because since it is a wide punch it can be easily defended, but if you can catch your opponent with it in an MMA fight or a boxing match, it can really hurt them.
Push kick is kind of like the jab of kicks. It is used as a defensive kick and an offensive kick. Your leg is longer than your arm so you can kick your opponent when he or she is further away. It is also a good surprise move if your opponent thinks that you will only be punching them, and you can give them a good push kick right in the stomach, ribs or the face. The important thing with this kick is to give a strong push which will help you generate a lot of power.
The knee is a powerful kick when you are up close with your opponent. Your opponent typically doesn't see it coming, and if you can sneak it in, and even add a little jump in there you can kick their chin and knock them out. It is a really powerful kick because the knee is all bone and it is very painful for your opponent.
The roundhouse kick is a difficult kick for most beginners to do correctly. It requires a combination of a few motions that people don't usually do in day to day life, and it takes time to get it all to work well together. To generate a lot of power in a roundhouse kick, you must first either get on the ball of your foot or turn your lead foot out. Then you must follow that by turning all of your body, and having your leg follow through and connect with whoever or whatever you are kicking. The power of the roundhouse kick, like with many of the punches, comes from the transfer of your bodyweight into the kick.

Many people struggle with getting the roundhouse kick to work for them because they can't get the spinning motion right in order to generate the speed and power of the kick. What you want to do is always throw combinations of different punches or kicks so that if your opponent gets away from one punch or kick, you might get them with the next one in your combination. It makes it much more difficult for your opponent to defend themselves in a fight.
Defense is a very underrated element for beginners in boxing, kickboxing or MMA style fighting. But as soon as a person gets hit, they realize the importance of defense. Blocking is a very important defensive strategy. A part of it is simply keeping your hands up. You don't always see all punches coming so keeping your hands up can help you block some of the kicks and punches.
Slipping is an important defensive move in boxing, kickboxing and MMA style fighting. A slip is a small move of your head to the left or to the right. You move your head just enough for the opponent to miss. After the slip you can throw counter punches because if your opponent missed they may be off balance or open defensively.
Ducking and rolling are additional defensive moves in boxing and kickboxing. It is a bigger movement than slipping in which you try to go under a punch. You can also throw counter punches after you duck or roll to a side because your body may have natural momentum and your opponent may not be ready defensively.
