Section 1: Introduction
Decorative Wire Wrapping 1: Mastering the Herringbone Wrap

How to use this course

Hi there and welcome to this course! I’m so glad you decided to join! Before we get started I just wanted to give you a quick overview of what we’re going to cover and how this course is going to work.

Hopefully, you’ve either completed my Wire Wrapping for Beginners course or you already have a solid foundation of the basics and feel comfortable with techniques like making wire wrapped loops and simple loops because we’re going to be using those a lot in this course and I don’t dedicate a whole lot of time to going over those skills specifically.

In the first lesson I am going to do a very quick review of a wire wrapped loop in case you need a refresher. But if you feel like I went too fast or you have no idea what I’m talking about then that’s a really good sign that you should go back to the beginner’s course and go over the section on wrapped loops again where I spend more time going through it with you. I wanted to be able to focus on the herringbone wrap technique for this course without having to repeat a lot of information that I’ve already covered with my students from that course.

I do recommend going through the lessons in this course in order because once we’ve gone over a certain method a couple of times in the beginning lessons I tend to move more quickly and sometimes speed up the video or even skip past parts that you should already know so that I’m not boring you with a lot of repetition. I do go through everything step-by-step in the very beginning and then the later lessons are more geared toward the parts of the pattern that are new or different, and I also teach them in order of difficulty. So again - best not to skip ahead so you don’t miss anything important.

For the supply list - I have made one big supply list that should cover you for all the projects in the course, but I’ve also separated out the supplies for individual lessons for you so that when you go to start a lesson you know exactly what you need in front of you. That will hopefully also be helpful in case you don’t want to make everything in the course.

If you are new to the Udemy platform then I would recommend going through the next video where I’ll help you find your way around, so you can find downloadable resources, I’ll show you how to ask a question and upload a photo and things like that. If you already are comfortable with Udemy, go ahead and mark that lesson as complete with that little checkmark in the bottom corner there and move on to the more exciting stuff :)

In this video I give you a quick overview of what we’re going to cover in this course. The first few sections of the course are dedicated to the herringbone wrap and several variations on that.

The herringbone wrap is usually made in two parts - you have a base link or form that you create first and then you embellish that with this decorative wire wrapping pattern.

I’m going to show you several different bases including links, drops, and other forms like ear wires and clasps and several options for the decorative part of the design, and you can mix and match the decorative part the designs I show you and use them on any of the bases that I show you.

So there are really a lot of fun variations you can play with and by the time you’ve completed this course, you’ll be able to come up with your own unique designs by simply combining some of the techniques that you’ve learned in different ways.

As in all my courses, I will be adding some bonus lessons for you, so this is just what’s in the course so far, so keep an eye out for those new lessons coming soon!

Where to Buy

A brief explanation of the jewelry wire recommended for this course.

Please let me know if you have any questions! There is also some more info on jewelry wire in the downloadable / supplementary materials for this lesson.

Before you start, you might want to straighten your wire so you aren't starting with a curved piece right off the spool. Here's how to do that!

Section 3: Herringbone Wrap 1 - Double loop link / connector
Section 2 Supply List

In this lesson, we will learn how to make the first part of a herringbone link - the base link which we will then embellish with woven wire.

We've created the base link and now we're ready to learn the beautiful herringbone wrap!

Any questions?
Section 4: Herringbone Wrap Drops
Section 3 Supply List

In this lesson, you'll learn one way to make a herringbone dangle or drop. This version has the herringbone pattern at both the top and bottom of the bead.

In this video, we'll learn another way to make a herringbone drop. This version only has the herringbone pattern at the top of the dangle, so I call this the 'half wrap' herringbone.

Section 5: Herringbone Variations
Section 4 Supply LIst

In this lesson I show you a fun variation on what we've learned so far- add a little something special to your herringbone designs by including beads in the mix!

This video shows you another beautiful variation on what we've learned so far. I call this technique the 'peacock feather' herringbone wrap, and I think you'll absolutely love it!

Section 6: Herringbone Bracelet and Earrings
Section 5 Supply List

In this video, I'll show you how to connect your herringbone links and we'll start forming a bracelet.

You'll also be able to use this method to connect any links and drops together to make earrings or necklaces.

Let's make a gorgeous herringbone embellished clasp and finish this bracelet!

Time to make some beautiful matching earrings! This style features an ear wire that's built in to the design, and you can choose to make them as a standalone (all-in-one) piece or to add a drop to the bottom.

Section 7: Pipa Knot Designs {NEW! Added 6/27/2016}
Section 7 Supply List

Introduction to a beautiful new wire wrapping technique. What exactly is a pipa knot?

Continuing on from the previous lecture where we made the outer frame for this design, we'll now learn to create the beautiful decorative wrapping that makes this style.

In this lecture, we'll begin with a wire-only version of the pipa knot. This will be the basis for all the following projects in this section and we'll build on it from here, so be sure not to skip this one!

This lesson shows a variation of the pipa knot design that incorporates a single bead into the center. We'll be building on what we learned in the previous video.

This lecture is a 2 loop version of the previous teardrop pipa knot style with a bead in the center. Again, building on what was covered in the last few lessons and adding on to what you already know.

This variation of the pipa knot is another version made with only wire. We'll make a link connector that has a loop on each end and has a symmetrical version of the wrapped style we have previously covered.
