Description

Have you ever wondered how 3D characters for games and animation are made? Have you ever wanted to create and paint your own 3D models? Digital sculpting offers an intuitive and fun approach to 3D modelling which anyone can pick up and use to bring their own ideas to life.

In this course you will learn about digital sculpting for the creation of 3D models for still images, games, animation and 3D printing. We will be looking extensively at Sculptris, a completely free and easy to learn 3D sculpting package from Pixologic - the creators of ZBrush. Over a series of short videos you will gain a complete overview of the software and its many features.

You don't need any prior 3D modelling experience prior to undertaking this course and we will introduce key concepts as we go along. Even if you are experienced with traditional 3D modelling packages such as 3DS Max, Maya or Blender you will find the digital sculpting workflow opens up a new world of possibilities for your 3D work.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • create your own 3D models from scratch
  • create complex models with many different component parts
  • add painted colour and surface detail (normal maps) to your models
  • export your models as a rendered image or for use with other programs (such as Unity)

By the end of the course you will be ready to dive into the world of digital sculpting and begin bringing your ideas to life. The only limit will be your imagination!

Who is the target audience?
  • Anyone interested in 3D Modelling for CGI, animation, games or 3D printing. No prior experience is required.

Digital Skills Training and Game Development

Hi, my name is Gary and I am managing director of Strange High House Ltd. a computer game development company in Moray, Scotland.  I deliver face-to-face training sessions focussing on a wide variety of digital skills from animation, 3D modelling, web design and game development. Many of my classes are delivered face-to-face as evening classes and I work directly with young people not in education or employment to provide digital skills training.

I also lecture part time in Interactive Media at Moray College UHI specialising in game development, 3D modelling and animation.
