In this video, I share a story about a guy who fall's into a hole that he's not able to climb his way out of. It goes something like this ...

"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out.

"A doctor passes by, and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

"Then a priest comes along, and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on

"Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.'

The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before, and I know the way out.'

I guess that it's through finding our way OUT of the holes that we find ourselves in throughout life that qualifies us to share the strategies with others of HOW to climb out!

You're not alone, everyone can get stuck in a hole of 'anxiety' sometimes!

We've All Been In This Hole At Some Time Or Another!

Answer the following questions to assess how much of a problem Anxiety is for you.

If you answered “TRUE” to most of these questions, you may have a problem with anxiety. This course will give you some fresh new ideas about how to manage your anxiety in more effective ways.

If your anxiety is severe, it can also be helpful to talk to a counsellor, psychologist or an appropriate life coach.

If you have answered "FALSE" to more questions than what you have answered "TRUE" to ... this is actually a REALLY GOOD THING, and perhaps anxiety isn't as much of a problem for you as what you thought it was!

Anxiety is an unpleasant feeling that we all experience at sometime or another.

It is a word often used to describe when we feel 'uptight', 'irritable', 'nervous', 'tense', or 'wound up'. When we are anxious we normally experience a variety of uncomfortable physical sensations.

These can include:

  • Increased heart rate • Muscular tension • Sweating • Trembling • Feelings of breathlessness
  • As well as this, anxiety affects us mentally too. For example, when anxious, we often worry for large periods of time, so much so that our worry can feel out of control.

These worries are often about a variety of issues and commonly our mind jumps quickly from one worry to another. Anxiety also influences how we behave. For instance, when we feel anxious, we often avoid doing things that we want to because we are worried about how they will turn out.

Although short experiences of anxiety are part and parcel of daily life, it becomes challenging when anxiety begins to follow people around and is a regular feature in their lives.

Having anxiety as a regular feature in your life is totally unnecessary and by the end of the course you will understand why.

What Anxiety 'Is and Isn't' (+ Worksheet 1)

“Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.” - Kahlil Gibran

Negative emotions can often be incredibly destructive things, so in this lecture, we'll explore where anxiety comes from in order for you to better understand it.

Every moment of our life we're living in a particular emotional state (some good, some not so good).

It may be calmness, excitement, anger, apathy, joy, happiness or certainty. Then as we go through our day we notice that we are shifted into a variety of other states and that the transformation is almost instantaneous.

In this short, easy to follow exercise, we'll look at how you can change the way that you feel in an instant.

Exercise 1: Change Your Emotional State In An Instant

As humans, we possess this unique ability to engage in emotional time travel by mentally fast forwarding through time to envision how they will feel in future situations.

Emotional time travel isn't without its pitfalls, though! At the most obvious level, people may make inaccurate predictions about how they will feel in a situation because the situation unfolds differently than they expect.

Even if the situation people experience goes on to match the situation they imagined, people face a different psychological situation when they experience an event than when they imagine it. When people fail to understand this in life, they can end up living life on a highly strung 'emotional rollercoaster'.

The time comes when we must stop aiming for perfection and start realising that we all have flaws, we all make mistakes and we are all human.

No matter what appears on the outside there is always a story behind closed doors. If you want to look for people for inspiration, look for those who show them real selves, their flaws, their insecurities and all.

When you let go of the idea of being perfect, you will find so much more fulfilment in your own life.

In this lecture, I'll tell you a bit more of my own back story and how just over 8 years ago, anxiety just about 'got the better' of me!

A Soldier's Tale: A True Story About Anxiety At It's Worst

For every emotional state, I find I have a different physical reaction.

And no state is more exhausting to me than worry. In my life, when I get stressed out about something, and I ask myself what the worst case scenario would be, it’s rarely that bad.

Most of the things I worry about aren’t, in the end, worth the effort of worrying about them. They aren’t worth the toll they take. I treat them like the fate of the universe rests on their outcome when in fact they are usually mere annoyances or headaches.

When in fact only my world rests on their outcomes. And even then, when the worst happens, and my worries are validated, it’s rarely that bad.

It doesn’t mean the concerns aren’t real, and sometimes the worst case scenario is truly horrible. But I’m trying to do better at recognizing when my feelings are not consistent with reality.

Think about something that’s bothering you. Is the worst case scenario that bad? If not, is there a way to do yourself a favor and let it go?

How The 'Worst Case Scenario' Never Usually Happens!

    Q) Do you know what Fear and Faith have in common?

    A) A future that hasn't happened yet.

'Fear' believes in a negative future. 'Faith' believes in a positive future.

Both believe in something that has not yet happened. So I ask you; if neither the positive or negative future has happened yet then why not choose to believe in the positive future?

What do you have to lose apart from the fear that is sabotaging your contentment in life?

A Shark Tale: The 'Fear or Faith' Principle

The only way to conquer fear is to face it!

In life, we encounter many trials and tribulations (these may be internal or actual realities), yet the only way to overcome our struggles is to be ‘a tryer’ and try until you overcome the obstacle.

There is never a more perfect time than when you’re broken and hit rock bottom than to give it a crack [uncertain and expectant of failure] is the only way.

As it's already been mentioned, confidence is our enabler in life whereas fear is our disabler. The only way that any of us can begin to move forward effectively in life is by 'feeling the fear' and just doing what needs to be done anyway!

Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway!
Getting A Better Understanding Of Anxiety
    8 Lectures 01:12:24

The voices in your head hold a negative attitude and use arguments to get their point across. As you become more aware of these differences, you may notice that these two voices can talk back and forth to one another.

Noticing when an “inner conversation” is taking place between the voice of your heart and the voices in your head gives you the freedom to choose which voice is speaking the truth.

I'm assuming that from reading and (hopefully) being able to relate to the above, you'll get the 'just' of what I'm about to share in this lecture, where we'll explore more about how your thoughts will impact the way that you feel.

How To Understand Your Internal Processes

Failure is a hugely valuable learning experience - even though many people wouldn't see it this way!

Above all else, failure is an opportunity to learn; and there is a lesson to be learned in every loss we encounter.

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” -Thomas A. Edison

This quote is great at stripping failure of its negative connotation. Failure is simply a way something “won't work”. Instead of being a “lack of success”, it becomes part of the process of trial and error. Thus, each idea we try that doesn't work brings us that much closer to an idea that does. To that end, experiencing failure is a necessary step in arriving at success.

Keep in mind, it is very important you learn from every failure and that the same failure isn't experienced twice. This could lead to unnecessary wastes of time and money and even possibly fatal mistakes.

How Failure & Rejection Aren't Always A Bad Thing

Life is not about experiences; it’s about the meaning we attach to them. One experience will be completely different for any two people simply because of the meaning they attach to it.

And as we go through life, we attach meaning to everything. Those meanings turn into emotions, and ultimately, those emotions frame the life we live.

Use this workbook to help you to get closer towards understanding and overcoming anxiety for good!

Workbook 1: Patterns Of Unhelpful Thinking
    5 pages

One of the most useless pieces of advice often delivered from gurus, and motivational speakers are this: Think positively.

This idea isn't a one-size-fits-all guide to life, and can even end up adding considerably to your daily stress load. Not only because you have to tackle the obstacles you're already facing, but from here you also have to wrestle with any negative thoughts that you find yourself having concerning these barriers.

There is a better and more efficient way to live. Because there's something far more valuable than being naturally optimistic, happy, or upbeat—and it's cultivation of emotional agility. Your ability to be aware of and receptive to all kinds of shifts in thinking and the emotions they create, without getting toppled by them, is what will make you the kind of person that you need to be.

We all want to succeed and Breakthrough in life, but the answer is not spending all our time hunting down and killing our negative thoughts; it's to rise above and begin recognising that, come good or ill, our values sustain us in a much stronger way than positive thinking ever could.

As much as we like to hear positive messages about ourselves, we crave the sense of being an authentic and consistent self in the first place.

Here, I'll offer you an idea that stands to be far greater than 'ALL' of the positive thinking in the world!

The Art Of Policing Your Thoughts

This is the 4th of 5 factsheets that will help you to get closer towards overcoming anxiety by the end of the course.

Worksheet: A Guide to Policing Your Thoughts
    2 pages

Emotional mastery is the key to living a life that you are 100% in control of.

The capacity to have absolute direct power over what you feel in every single moment (despite what's happening around you) is one of the most important skill sets you can have.

Whatever you feel, you're not feeling it because you have to feel it. You're feeling it because you've chosen to focus on something that you don't want (or don't value). To master your emotions and consciously choose the state you wish to live in, you need to understand the order of your feelings, how they work and also how to read them!

Emotion is created by your motion. Where your focus goes, your energy will flow. And where energy flows, whatever you're focusing on grows. In other words, your life is controlled by what you focus on. That's why you need to focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear.

Shift your focus toward where you want to go and your actions will take you in that direction. By becoming competent at understanding and mastering your emotions, you can choose to spend more time in positive and resourceful emotional conditions.

From these circumstances, you'll become better at making more empowered decisions that will help you reach your greatest potential and in turn to BREAKTHROUGH whatever undesired circumstances that you face.

    The Art Of Emotional Mastery

One way to grasp an understanding of how we are made is to be able to recognise that there are three parts of us, which are all entirely interconnected.

Firstly, we have a material part, which prevents our blood, bones and organs from merely becoming a pile of 'mush' on the floor, we call this our Body.

However, we also have two immaterial parts, which we'd call our soul (where the thoughts come in) and our spirit (which gives us our conscience). The following is my best possible effort at explaining our design and how the Spirit, Soul and Body are all interconnected.

As I will discuss further in the video's that follow, our thinking will 100% determine our emotional wellbeing, and our emotional well-being has a significant impact on our actions and behaviours.

It is ultimately our actions and responses that determine our life's outcomes and results – whether good or bad! So in this regard, our thought patterns play a significant role in our emotional and physical health.

Here, though, I'll do my very best to explain how all of this works,

In this video, we will explore the 3 primary elements that fundamentally make you ... you!

How To Understand Yourself From The Inside-Out

The 3 F's: Fact! Faith! Feeling!

These three words stand for three most important factors in character and life. We all have to do with them in one form or another, but it is above all things necessary that we should place them in the right order.

Most people try to put Feeling first, with as much success as if they tried to build the top story of a house before laying its foundations. Their order is-

FEELING, FAITH then FACT ... in this lecture we'll explore exactly what is meant by this and also how it can effect our lives if we place these three F's in the wrong order.

    The Fact's - Feelings - Faith Principle
Feel The fear & Do It Anyway!

Life is like a Movie! You are your movie writer and at the same time, you are the principal actor. You are your director, your producer, and you are your agent, co-creating your role with different souls (co – actors) in your very own personal film.

So many of us can become so caught up in our 'right here right now' circumstances that we lose sight of the bigger picture - life is meant to be lived!

Picture your life as a story, it had a beginning and it will some day come to an end - you are the main character in this story, you always have been and you always will be ... so, if this is the case, you might as well make it dramatic!

When things get tough ... remember to press the pause button, and simply reflect upon the truth that although what you're currently facing may be tough - it's only one short scene in what will be one HELL of an epic movie!

The Hero's Journey: Being The Star Of Your Own Movie

Have you ever felt stressed or really anxious about something?

Of course, you have ... most likely, you'll often have too much on your plate, where deadlines are looming, and people are counting on you. You are under a lot of pressure—so much that at times, you suspect the quality of your whole life suffers for it.

The difference between those who make progress in life and those who don't isn't whether you suffer from anxiety or not, but how you deal with it when it comes!

To deal with life's problems most effectively ... we all need a strategy that works!

A Strategy For Everything (Even Beating Anxiety)

If you consider a time in your life when you were 'at your most anxious' - what decision could you have made at the time that would have put an end to your troubles?

You will recognise how all anxiety stems from a decision that hasn't yet been made.

Anxiety Stems From Our 'Unmade' Decisions

One of the greatest secrets of living a passion filled life is operating inside your strength zone, but outside of your comfort zone.

Although you might fail incredibly, you might also succeed incredibly - and that's why great risk and courage are requisites. Either way, you'll learn more than ever about your strengths, talents and resolve, and you'll strengthen your will for the next challenge.

If this sounds like dangerous territory, it can be. But there are ways to ease into this fearless mindset. The first is to consciously maintain a positive attitude so that, no matter what you encounter, you'll be able to see the lessons of the experience and continue to push forward in your life.

We all make mistakes and fail sometimes; the secret is learning the lessons that need to be learned - then move on!
