Contents and Overview
This course was made for anyone that wishes to earn money from home, whether they are a student with spare time but can't work a 'traditional job', a stay-at-home mum or dad who has a little time while the kids are away, or whether they have a full time job but want to build a second income, or build a business that they can leave their day job for. The only requirements are a flexible mindset and a commitment to working hard.
Enrollees in this course will have access to the five sections which detail different ways to make money. The sections cover very broad subjects but some aspects are interchangeable. The first section covers the very basic way to make money:
Each of the sections explores the concept and why it makes money. Each also then explores practical and realistic ideas or how-to's so that students can start making money easily as quickly as possible - the only time is to figure out what goods or services to provide and then to create your online profiles and pages as required.
If students feel that they don't have the skills required to make money online then they should not worry - the first section covers the skills that anyone has to offer if they can just read, write, talk, sing, type or draw!
Students who complete this course will be mentally prepared and full of ideas to create their second income. The course is motivating and shows how easy it is to create an income with no capital - just time and effort.
This lecture aims to introduce myself as your instructor and tell you what the course is all about.
The course covers 5 interchangeable ways to make money, it explains the concepts behind the different ways to earn and gives ideas and solutions for each one. By the end of the course you should have some great ideas of how you can realistically make money using the Internet. All of the ideas are solid ways to make money and are a far cry from the many scams that you can fall into!
This lecture tells you to be realistic - you will need to work. You will need to be productive and you will need to keep going!
This lecture lets you know the VERY basic concept that will allow you to solidly earn money:
Find problems and provide solutions.
Don't charge a fortune but don't work for pennies.
Describes the 5 ways to make money from home that are covered in this course - feel free to jump to the section that resonates most with you and/or skip the sections that you know are not your strengths.
Many people or businesses cannot afford to hire someone full or even part time to carry out certain tasks. But they still need these things done so they end up doing them themselves - be the person who helps them out.
Things that you can already do. (Or develop new skills as per section 5). Logo redesign, Caption typing, data entry, writing blog posts (see next section for social media marketer), create videos, voiceovers, user testing/reviewing
Explains many of the different sites to sell your services or to find jobs and ideas.
Write down the tasks that you could do for other people quickly and/or easily.
Social Media marketing is crazily important in todays world. Businesses KNOW that it is hugely important. However when business owners are so busy doing their business they have no time.
How often should companies be posting on social media - the guide within this lecture show that its probably more than you think!
How to contact business owners. How much to charge. Keep track of everyone with spreadsheets, call your businesses weekly/monthly. Do the content ahead of time, then schedule. Tools like hootsuite will help but cost money.
Find and write down 20 contact details. You can contact these people, explain who you are and what you're setting up.
By creating digital products and placing them online to be available to customers you can create a 1-to-many ratio rather than a time-for-money ratio. So taking time to create a thing may pay dividends in the future - this is where either real money starts coming in, or you just waste your time!
Exploring the sorts of things you can sell online after creating just once. EBooks, PDFs, tutorials, templates, patterns, downloadable art, fonts, web applications, apps, courses.
Yes! Really! At least 5 pages about something you know. It doesn't have to be selling ready, it doesn't have to be pretty. It doesn't have to be good. The exercise will show you that you will need to organise your thoughts on a subject, and will show you how easy or hard you find writing about something. Save as PDF.
Actual physical products still need to be bought and sold to keep the world going round. You can either create real products from home or you can sell others' products.
This lecture covers how to find ideas of what to sell online. Search ebay, Amazon and Etsy for ideas and to see what sells well - view your favourite categories and look at the bestseller lists. Search for dropshipping resources. Explore these resources without having to create a paid account!
Figure out what skills you could learn in order to earn money in the future. Find resources on the Internet to learn for free or paid.
As well as the ideas presented in this lecture consider:
Computer based skills.
Coding of any sort
Design of any sort
Books on any subject (try to find in demand ones or ones where you can see a spin that needs to happen).
Find something that you'd like to learn and research your learning options.
Kim Debling owns and runs her design company Kestrel Design from the comfort of her home office. Her employees and freelancers all work from home too as she and they value the freedom and lifestyle this affords. She began and built her company over several years whilst working full time as an Air Traffic Controller. She is focused, dedicated and frantically entrepreneurial. She also has a thirst for learning and passing on her knowledge that perfectly aligns with what Udemy offers.
As an Air Traffic Control Officer she was a supervisor, instructor and examiner - guiding new Air Traffic Controllers as they come into the job and then signing them off as suitable to control solo. It was a rewarding experience - especially seeing under-confident new controllers shine and become more qualified themselves. Her calm, no-nonsense instructional delivery was honed during these years in this fast-paced but safety critical training environment.
Due to the stressful nature of the job, Kim started to become extremely interested in self-management of stress, self-improvement and the work-life balance. Over the years she has become passionate about regaining control over our own lives and working out what works for each individual. This is often reflected in her courses, social media channels and products.
Kim's day-to-day involves building websites, creating digital products, books, designing packaging and generally stretching her left brain hemisphere. Her honours degree was in Internet Computer Science and she has kept up to date with many skills and built upon them.
Kim is married to Steve, a helicopter pilot, is mum to baby Rose, and has two cats - Nala and Duchess.
