Section 1: Course Overview

Take a few moments to get aquainted with the 'Road Map'.  It's going to be an amazing journey!  Be sure to read 'A note from me' below too!

Section 2: Lectures

Let the journey begin!  Here we will examine fundamentals in 'The Language of Music'.  The Language of Music is our method of communication and as 100% non negotiable in understanding the foundations of music.

In this lecture, we will learn what 'Tones & Semitones' are and their role within the Language of Music.  Tones and Semitones are an amazing key to unlocking basic 'Major' and 'Minor' understanding.  The reason I have put this in 'How to Play Contemporary Piano' is that much of what we hear on radio today is based on simple 'Major' and 'Minor' underpinnings.  Learn this and playing any song in any key will become 2nd nature in no time!

In learning 'How to Play Contemporary Piano' there are two common methodologies of communication.  'Letters' & 'Numbers'.  It's most likely that you have grown up learning letters of the alphabet as the names of notes (i.e:  a,b,c,d etc).  This is a great 'Musical Language' however the more I travel and play in professional environments the less I hear letters and the more I hear numbers.  In this lesson discover the differences and how to use both.

In this lesson of 'How to Play Contemporary Piano' you will discover how to apply Tones and Semitones with Letters and Numbers.  The first three lessons train you to think in principles and not in key signatures.  This is the bringing together of concepts that will leave you feeling confident no matter what key you play in!

The sound value of a major scale is kept true in any key by the addition of sharps and flats in places that are consistent with principles learned in 'Tones & Semitones' lecture.  This is the final key in applying principles of Tones/Semitones and Letters/Numbers.  You're doing a great job!

In this lesson of 'How to Play Contemporary Piano', we start to unpack basic chord principals.  Here you'll discover the differences between Major and Minor chords and also the foundations of Major and Minor Triads.

This is taking 'How to Play Contemporary Piano' to the next leve!  You just learned the basics of Major and Minor chords, now learn how to take a stark triad and make it sound delicious!  This is where things start to get fun.  You'll get an immediate access point to professional sounding chord shapes here.  I'm excited for you!  Go ahead and learn!!!  :)

Go to any studio or play in any professional environment and you'll soon find out that what makes a tight band is a team that can play in time.  It's a hallmark of professional musicianship.  In this lesson on 'How to Play Contemorary Piano' you'll discover basics of rhythm, and how to play in time.  Don't forget to use the downloadables attached to really get these concepts sinking in.

This is the icing on the cake!!!  The final video on 'How to Play Contemporary Piano'.  You'll learn all kinds of tricks and tips that I've picked up over the years. Enjoy!
