Course Description

How to paint dogs!

This course is for those who has done some painting before, not animals but even landscapes, stillife, modern art as long as you have painted before, this is a great  course for you.

This course is for those who wish to paint dogs, their own dog, but also those who wish to paint dogs on commission and those who are ready to start a gallery.

We are paiting with acrylic paint on canvas. The course depends on how fast you can paint, but I if you go step by step your first artwork will take you about  2 weeks.

This course is structured in such a way that if you follow the steps as they are you can make a great painting. Step by step don´t be in a hurry, if it doesn´´t work, put it down and start again the next day.  Some paintings take months to finish, there should be no rush at all.

The course is about painting not drawing so before we start make sure that you have already drawn your model (dog) on the canvas. You only have to draw the outlines and the situation of the eyes and nose. The rest we will paint.

We are all artist, artist with their own ways and their own thoughts, and together we create a Great World of Art.

We really want you to finish this course . But instead of setting that as you goal it is important that you finish your painting,on the same pace, similar as the lectures are numbered.  In this section we will be adressing Acrylic Paint , and because we are using acrylic paint in this course it important that you know a bit about it.

02:19

When you paint a dog´s portrait  never take too large a canvas. People usually like the coziness, the furyness or cuddelyess of the animal and it is easier to do that on a smaller canvas than on a large canvas. A head shot of a dog or cat 30x40 cm or 30x30cm . The canvas I am using during the course is 40x50cm.

02:19

Nothing worse than a great painting but messed up because the background is the wrong colour or just isn´t right. You background is just as important as your object itself. It is zo easy to overdo your painting remember the saying :"Less is More" do you know which artist said that. Send me a mail with the answer.

02:24

How to make your life easier, when painting.

04:23

What should you look at when you want to paint the dogs character?

01:25

Use a light background color unless you dog is snow white then you should use a dark color. and please do not forget to paint the sides and last the bottom of the canvas. I think that most beginner artist forget the bottom. It is also nice to let a paw or ear or tail, carry on , on the sides. Like I am doing on my painting.

Section 2: The Eyes and nose
Article

We are slowly but surely starting to do more with the fur of the dog. Don´t do too much yet just the dark and light parts. The finer hairs we will do in the end.

Article

Explanation as to how you should look at the eye and what is important to paint.

06:08

Please, please please, look and study the eyes before you paint, look and paint a bit and look again and again and again. Look, where are the light parts, where are the dark parts.

Section 3: The Don´t Forget Things.

The fur is never really finished until just before you are ready for varnish, it´s a hair here and a hair there, stand back and look, paint stand back and look again. The final touch up..............

Remember the sides !

Section 4: Other important things to know
01:03

Unfortunately I cannot put the dog paintings up here of private owners, but some of these I can show to you, you can look at the eyes and noses and see how different they all are.

06:51

Good Equipment , also when painting is very important, keeping up to date with the newest gadgets, will help you get better results with whatever you are busy with.

05:33

How often do I not see paintings not signed, I´ll give you reasons why it´s so important to sign you painting, all of your paintings. Somebody might just be visiting a friend of yours, he sees your painting hanging and loves it but there is no name on it, he thinks by himself that he will ask the owner of the painting who painted it later on. But at the end of the evening so much has been discussed and he goes home and eventually forgets about it. Months later he might remember that he saw a great painting somewhere, but ! where was it ?, who was it ?, and there is a good opportunity down the drain.

06:26

Let,s see what we´ve done until now.

4 questions

Just some question to see if you now now the basics of painting a dog and painting in general.

Article

The final product, painting of a dog. This has been a great adventure with you, I hope that we will be doing some more  great paintings together, and remember that I love to see your paintings too. Thank you Marqueritte Clasquin.

My name is Marqueritte Clasquin born in The Netherlands but when I was about 8 years old my parents decided to try a warmer country and left for South Africa. There I grew up an did a 5 year art study, other studies I did was Hotel School, Public Relations, Marketing Management and Real Estate. After 25 years I decided to go back to the Netherland for good. there I had to study Real Estate Again and so I did to get to work and make some money. I always realized that there was something different with me and eventually via some people I enrolled in a mediumship school and now I have been working as a medium for a while and as a Certified hypnotherapist. Art has always been my passion and I still paint for me as that is the most important as you have to put your energy ,your passion and your soul into the painting only then will it be a masterpiece.
